Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Examine animals to detect and determine the nature of diseases or injuries.
• Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds.
• Restores health by treating animals surgically or medically.
• Prevents rabies, brucellosis and other disorders by testing animals, providing vaccinations.
• Collect body tissue, animal waste, blood, urine, or other body fluids for examination and analysis.
• Train and supervise workers who handle animals.
• Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs and animal records.
• Establish and conduct testing procedures that prevent the spread of diseases to other animals or to humans and that comply with applicable government regulations.
• Plan and execute animal nutrition and reproduction programs.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
• Research diseases to which animals could be susceptible.
• Perform any other duties assigned by manager.
