Job Summary:

The Lathe Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining lathe machines to manufacture precision metal components as per engineering drawings and specifications. The role requires knowledge of turning operations, tooling, and quality control processes to ensure dimensional accuracy and production efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate manual or semi-automatic lathe machines for turning, facing, threading, boring, and grooving operations.
• Interpret technical drawings, job orders, and specifications to determine machine settings and tooling requirements.
• Measure and inspect finished components using measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and thread gauges.
• Adjust machine settings and tooling as needed to maintain quality and dimensional accuracy.
• Monitor the machine during operation to detect issues such as tool wear, chatter, or irregular cutting.
• Maintain equipment cleanliness and perform routine preventive maintenance checks.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols and report any unsafe conditions or machine malfunctions.
• Maintain production logs and job tracking sheets accurately.
• Cooperate with quality control and engineering teams for inspection and continuous improvement.
• Assist in optimizing machining processes to reduce cycle time and improve output.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a lathe machine operator in a metal fabrication or machining shop.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and machining symbols.
• Familiarity with various turning tools, inserts, and cutting parameters for different materials (mild steel, alloy steel, etc.).
• Basic knowledge of machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
• Understanding of shop safety practices.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle moderately heavy materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Diploma in Mechanical or Turner trade.
• Experience with conventional lathe and other machining machines
• Knowledge of basic geometric tolerances and surface finishes
