The Web Designer role within PMU’s IT department supports these objectives by creating visually appealing and user-centric web interfaces that enhance the university’s online presence and align with its brand.
Job Purpose

The Web Designer is responsible for designing/re-designing and building PMU’s websites to ensure they are visually appealing, user-friendly, and aligned with the university’s brand. This role combines creativity with technical expertise to provide seamless navigation, quick loading, and error-free performance. The ideal candidate excels in design aesthetics, UI/UX principles, and front-end development.

Duties and Responsibilities

Major Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and define user and system requirements for new websites and applications.
  • Design, develop, and update web pages to ensure functionality, visual appeal, and responsiveness across various devices.
  • Apply best practices in layout, color schemes, typography, and image selection to maintain a consistent brand identity.
  • Conduct user research to understand needs and adopt a user-centric design approach.
  • Use UX/UI principles to enhance user interaction while adhering to accessibility standards.
  • Create wireframes and prototypes to optimize layouts and user experience across all pages.
  • Collaborate with Web Managers, Developers, and Content Teams to meet technical and content requirements.
  • Work with designers on UI elements, including graphics, navigation, and interactive components.
  • Attend project meetings to align web design with organizational goals and project timelines.
  • Use Content Management Systems (CMS) like WordPress or Joomla for content management.
  • Train non-technical staff in using CMS tools for content updates.
  • Conduct cross-browser compatibility and responsiveness testing for all web designs.
  • Monitor and optimize web performance, collecting user feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Provide support for troubleshooting, debugging, and updating web content as needed.

Qualifications & Experience (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Web Design, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in web design or front-end development, focusing on UX/UI design.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar position is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in web design software and tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD) and Figma.
  • Strong understanding of UI/UX principles and responsive design best practices.
  • Experience with front-end languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript; familiarity with frameworks like Angular or React is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in team-based settings and independently as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent command of the English language and familiarity with technology-infused academic environments.
  • Experience with APIs and RESTful web services integration is a plus.
  • Knowledge of content management systems (CMS), such as WordPress or Joomla, for website management.
