Job Responsibilities:
As a Medical Coder, your core responsibilities will include:
- Interpreting medical documentation including diseases, symptoms, procedures, and diagnostic descriptions to accurately assign and sequence ICD, CPT, and modifier codes.
- Ensuring all assigned codes comply with federal regulations, legal standards, and insurance guidelines for accurate reimbursement.
- Reviewing medical charts for accuracy and completeness, and verifying data entries and physician signatures.
- Collaborating with healthcare providers to clarify unclear information or diagnosis when needed.
- Utilizing specialized coding software to input and analyze medical data effectively.
- Staying current on industry trends, legal updates, and coding standards by reading bulletins, attending workshops, and reviewing coding manuals.
- Assisting in developing and updating procedure manuals to maintain coding accuracy and prevent fraudulent practices.
- Upholding MTBC CareCloud’s information security and privacy policies.
- Ensuring that data and system access remain secure and compliant with internal standards.
- Performing any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor or department head.
Requirements:
- Experience: 6 months to 1 year of hands-on experience in medical coding or a relevant healthcare role.
- Education: Must hold a degree in DPT, Pharm D, MBBS, or Eastern Medicine (BEMS/BHMS).
- Shift Availability: Willingness to work in rotating shifts (day/night).
- Medical Knowledge: Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
- Certification (Preferred, not mandatory): CPC, CCS, or any AAPC/AHIMA-recognized certification will be a plus.
- Work Ethic: Self-motivated with a strong sense of responsibility and confidentiality.
- Location: Must be available to work on-site at our Rawalpindi office.
- Professionalism: Strong adherence to ethical standards and data privacy regulations.
Tools / Skills
- Strong Knowledge of Medical Terminology – Ability to understand and interpret clinical language used in patient records.
- Familiarity with ICD & CPT Coding Systems – Basic understanding of diagnosis and procedure coding standards.
- Attention to Detail – Accuracy in reviewing charts, documents, and data to ensure proper code assignment.
- Analytical Thinking – Ability to analyze medical records and extract relevant information.
- Computer Literacy – Proficiency in using coding software and data entry tools.
- Communication Skills – Ability to effectively communicate with healthcare providers for clarifications.
- Knowledge of HIPAA & Compliance Standards – Understanding of privacy, security, and legal requirements in medical data handling.
- Time Management – Ability to manage multiple cases efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Adaptability – Comfortable working in a rotating shift setup and adjusting to new systems or updates.
- Team Player Attitude – Willingness to collaborate with team members and support organizational goals.
