Job Purpose:
The Planning Manager is responsible for leading the planning and scheduling of construction projects to ensure efficient, timely, and cost-effective execution. This role involves developing and managing project schedules, coordinating with stakeholders, overseeing resource planning, and ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards. The Planning Manager plays a key role in strategic decision-making and supports project success through proactive planning and risk management .
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and maintenance of comprehensive project schedules, including milestones, deliverables, and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to align planning activities with project goals and timelines.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential delays or risks, and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule integrity.
- Coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies to ensure timely execution of project phases.
- Oversee the procurement planning of materials, equipment, and services in alignment with project timelines.
- Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, resolve planning-related issues, and ensure adherence to specifications.
- Manage project budgets from a planning perspective, including forecasting, cost control, and variance analysis.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including schedules, progress reports, change orders, and planning logs.
- Lead planning meetings, workshops, and progress reviews, ensuring clear communication and follow-up on action items.
- Continuously evaluate and improve planning processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance project delivery.
- Stay informed on industry trends, planning technologies, and regulatory changes affecting project execution.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior planning staff and support their professional development.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10–15 years of experience in construction project planning, with at least 3 years in a managerial or lead role.
- Strong knowledge of construction planning principles, techniques, and best practices.
- Proficiency in planning and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to anticipate and resolve planning challenges.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- In-depth understanding of construction contracts, procurement processes, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to lead teams, make strategic decisions, and drive planning excellence across projects.
- Professional certifications such as PMP, PSP (Planning & Scheduling Professional), or equivalent are highly desirable.
