Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialized Oceanographic Engineer to join our team for an offshore deployment in Kuwait. This role requires a strong understanding of oceanographic principles, practical experience with offshore data acquisition systems, and the ability to work effectively in a demanding offshore environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for the deployment, operation, maintenance, and data analysis of various oceanographic instruments and systems, contributing to critical projects supporting [mention the specific industry, e.g., coastal engineering, environmental monitoring, oil & gas].
Responsibilities:
- Offshore Deployment & Operations:
- Plan, execute, and supervise the deployment and retrieval of oceanographic instruments and equipment, including current meters, wave buoys, CTDs, ADCPs, and other sensors, from offshore platforms, vessels, and subsea structures.
- Ensure safe and efficient deployment and recovery operations, adhering to strict safety protocols and best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to oceanographic instrumentation and data acquisition systems in a timely manner.
- Instrumentation Maintenance & Calibration:
- Perform regular maintenance, calibration, and repair of oceanographic instruments and data loggers.
- Maintain accurate records of instrument calibration, maintenance, and performance.
- Manage inventory of spare parts and equipment.
- Data Acquisition & Processing:
- Configure and operate data acquisition systems, ensuring accurate and reliable data collection.
- Process, validate, and analyze oceanographic data using specialized software (e.g., Matlab, Python, specific vendor software).
- Identify and resolve data anomalies, ensuring data quality and integrity.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing operational activities, data analysis results, and equipment performance.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all procedures, processes, and data.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Comply with all safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and company policies during offshore operations.
- Participate in safety meetings and contribute to a safe working environment.
- Ensure that all equipment and operations are compliant with relevant industry standards and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Oceanography, Ocean Engineering, Marine Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of [Number] years of experience in oceanographic instrumentation and data acquisition.
- Proven experience with offshore deployments of oceanographic instruments and equipment.
- Strong understanding of oceanographic principles, including currents, waves, tides, and water quality parameters.
- Proficiency in using specialized software for data processing and analysis (e.g., Matlab, Python, specific vendor software).
- Experience with various types of oceanographic instrumentation, including current meters, wave buoys, CTDs, ADCPs, etc.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding offshore environment.
- Valid Offshore Safety Training (e.g., BOSIET/HUET) and Medical Certificate.
- Experience working in the Middle East region is a plus.

Required expertise includes:
- CTD Profilers with sensors for turbidity, chlorophyll fluorescence, PAR and dissolved oxygen.
- Acoustic survey instruments – Single & multi-beam echo sounders, side-scan sonar.
- Plankton sampling gear – MPN, BONGO nets, closing nets.
- ADCPs for current profiling.
- Seafloor sampling tools – Gravity corers, dredges, grab samplers.
- Integrated fish-finding systems.
- Laboratory instruments – Autoanalyzer (SKALAR), AUTOSAL, CO₂ analyzers.
- Environmental monitoring systems – Ocean buoys, AWS, etc.
- Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented, technically proficient, and experienced in field deployments and data handling of oceanographic equipment.
- Required Experience: 25-30 years
