Manager, Process Automation: Job Description
Overview:
The Manager of Process Automation is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving efficiency, innovation, and digital transformation through the identification, design, development, and implementation of automated solutions across the organization. This role will lead a team of automation specialists, collaborating closely with business stakeholders, IT, and other functional areas to optimize workflows, reduce manual effort, enhance data accuracy, and improve overall operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
* Strategy & Roadmap Development:
* Develop and champion a comprehensive process automation strategy aligned with organizational goals and digital transformation initiatives.
* Identify and prioritize high-impact business processes suitable for automation across various departments.
* Build and maintain an automation roadmap, outlining project timelines, resource requirements, and expected business value.
* Stay abreast of emerging automation technologies (e.g., Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Intelligent Automation, Low-Code/No-Code platforms, AI/ML-driven automation) and assess their applicability.
* Team Leadership & Development:
* Lead, mentor, and develop a team of process automation specialists, fostering a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
* Provide guidance on automation best practices, development standards, and solution design.
* Manage team workloads, allocate resources effectively, and ensure timely project delivery.
* Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support professional growth.
* Solution Design & Implementation:
* Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of automation projects, from initial assessment and requirements gathering to design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
* Collaborate with business process owners and subject matter experts to thoroughly understand existing workflows, identify bottlenecks, and define clear automation opportunities and success metrics.
* Champion the creation of detailed process documentation (e.g., process maps, solution design documents, test plans).
* Ensure automated solutions are robust, scalable, secure, and maintainable.
* Manage vendor relationships for automation platforms and tools as needed.
* Governance & Optimization:
* Establish and enforce process automation governance frameworks, including standards, guidelines, and quality assurance procedures.
* Implement monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track the performance, efficiency, and ROI of deployed automations.
* Conduct regular reviews of automated processes to identify opportunities for further optimization, enhancement, or retirement.
* Manage the change management aspects of automation projects, ensuring smooth adoption by end-users and effective communication.
* Stakeholder Management & Communication:
* Act as a primary liaison between business units and the automation team, translating business needs into technical requirements and vice versa.
* Effectively communicate project status, challenges, and successes to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
* Educate and advocate for process automation capabilities across the organization, fostering a culture of automation.
Qualifications:
* Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. A Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Lean Six Sigma, PMP, RPA certifications from UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism) are highly desirable.
* Experience:
* 5+ years of progressive experience in process improvement, business analysis, or automation roles.
* 2+ years in a leadership or managerial capacity, leading process automation initiatives and/or teams.
* Proven track record of successfully delivering impactful automation solutions that resulted in measurable business benefits (e.g., cost savings, efficiency gains, improved accuracy).
* Hands-on experience with leading RPA platforms (e.g., UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism) and/or other automation technologies.
* Technical Skills:
* Strong understanding of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) methodologies, best practices, and lifecycle.
* Familiarity with process mapping and business process management (BPM) tools and techniques.
* Knowledge of programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, .NET, Java) is a plus.
* Experience with integration concepts (APIs, web services).
* Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies.
* Understanding of data analytics and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for performance monitoring.
