Job Description

Job Summary

The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for overseeing the financial and contractual management of the project from feasibility through to final account settlement. Duties include advising clients on project viability, managing costs to ensure budgets are not exceeded, organizing and awarding subcontractor work packages, handling contractual and legal matters, preparing valuations to authorize payments for completed work, providing financial guidance, monitoring project progress, and ensuring that all commercial aspects of the project align with client expectations and industry standards. The role requires strong organizational and analytical skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to manage complex financial and contractual tasks while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in quantity surveying or construction cost management
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost control procedures
  • Proficient in MS Office and industry-specific software such as AutoCAD, MS Project, or cost management tools
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills with strong attention to detail
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with local construction regulations, standards, and legal frameworks

Responsibilities

  • Conduct feasibility studies and provide cost estimates to advise clients on project affordability and viability.
  • Prepare and manage detailed valuations for completed work to support timely and accurate payment processes.
  • Organize project scope into work packages and oversee the selection and appointment of subcontractors based on best value and compliance.
  • Monitor project expenditures and ensure that costs remain within the approved budget throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Handle contractual matters, including drafting, reviewing, and managing contracts in compliance with legal and project requirements.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and project teams to ensure alignment to financial and commercial objectives.
  • Track and report on financial progress and variations, advising clients on cost implications and risk mitigation.
  • Finalize project accounts and ensure that all financial and contractual obligations are settled at project completion.
