Job Description

Job Summary:

The Criminal Investigator – Financial Industry is responsible for investigating suspected financial crimes including fraud, money laundering, insider trading, embezzlement, bribery, and other illicit financial activities. This role involves working closely with compliance, legal, and law enforcement teams to identify suspicious activity, gather and analyze evidence, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct complex investigations into potential financial crimes involving internal or external actors.
  • Analyze transactional data, account activity, and internal reports to detect fraud, irregularities, or suspicious behavior.
  • Prepare detailed investigative reports, evidence files, and documentation for regulatory bodies or law enforcement.
  • Interview relevant parties, including employees, customers, and third parties.
  • Work with AML (Anti-Money Laundering), KYC (Know Your Customer), and compliance teams to ensure proactive monitoring and timely reporting.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, regulators (e.g., SEC, FINRA, FIU), and external investigators when needed.
  • Recommend corrective actions or internal control improvements based on investigation outcomes.
  • Stay updated with evolving fraud schemes, financial regulations, and investigative techniques.
  • Support the development and refinement of fraud detection tools, policies, and training programs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Finance, Accounting, Law, or a related field.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in financial crime investigation, forensic accounting, or fraud risk management.
  • Familiarity with financial industry regulations (e.g., BSA/AML, FATF, OFAC, SARs).
  • Experience with financial crime analytics tools and case management systems.
