The Gaming Control Board is a regulatory agency of the State of New Mexico. Its mission is to uphold the integrity, transparency and fairness of gaming activities throughout the State through a combination of legal frameworks, regulations, monitoring and enforcement measures.
Why does the job exist?

This position ensures those who wish to become involved in the non-tribal gaming industry have clean financial and criminal records. This is accomplished by Licensing Department employees carefully auditing all licensing applications.
How does it get done?

The New Mexico Gaming Control Board (NMGCB) performs background checks and licenses all employees of New Mexico entities involved in non-tribal gaming operations, including casinos at race tracks, gaming equipment manufacturers and distributors, and non-profit entities involved in bingo, raffles and pull tabs. Depending on the applicant, an application can be several inches thick and include many different financial statements, tax returns and other documents with complex material.

Licensing applicants to work in non-tribal gaming and non-profit bingo operations, raffles and pull tabs entails:
  • Entering applicant information into the computer, verifying applicant information and ensuring all documents, including database reports, fingerprint results and credit reports, are in applicant files. Applicants with dubious and questionable history may not be approved.
  • Making recommendations on licensing status and submitting such to supervisor for approval. May include preparing and presenting a Board Summary for those applicants who require board action based on findings.
  • Filling in at the receptionist desk including greeting public and directing to the appropriate personnel, answering incoming calls promptly and cordially, logging in packages and email receipts, screening and processing applications, generating reports, keying in data, maintaining logs, assisting with walk-ins and processing checks in receptionist's absence.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and two (2) years of experience in investigations, regulation, policy, statutory, and/or contract compliance. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements

Selected candidate must have a driver's license and will be subject to an extensive pre-employment background check that includes fingerprinting.

New Mexico Gaming Control Board employees may not participate in any gaming activity including bingo and raffle in the State of New Mexico. This does not include State Lottery and New Mexico horse racing.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. There may be some in-state travel and possible extra hours depending on duties. Employees do not work remotely.
