New Mexico State Police (NMSP) serves our state as the premier law enforcement agency. Our mission begins with establishing partnerships and relationships within our communities that mitigate and prevent crime. The NMSP Communications Bureau provides 911 dispatching services to NMSP and various partnering agencies throughout the state. It provides emergency and non-emergency service response to the citizens and visitors of New Mexico. We have three Communications Centers across the state where dispatchers receive, evaluate, and transmit information via telephone and multi-channel radio that frequently involves emergency and critical situations affecting human welfare and safety. This position is based in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
 
The starting hourly wage for a non-certified dispatcher (Associate Public Safety Dispatcher) is $22.94. The hourly wage for certified dispatchers with 2-9 years' experience is $25.67, 10-17 years' experience is $26.40, 18-24 years' experience is $27.13 and 25 years or more is $27.89 an hour. Certified dispatchers may receive extra compensation for having a degree or certain certifications.

 How does it get done?
 
This demanding position receives emergency and non-emergency calls, understands the caller's needs and prioritizes calls according to urgency and importance. They operate a complex multi-channel communications system and provide support services.
 
Essential functions include, without limitation:

Child Protective Services Case Workers make decisions regarding the safety of a child or vulnerable adult, whether to forward referrals to local field offices for investigation or refer a family who has been in an abuse/neglect situation to supportive services. They participate in "phone triage" as recipients of reports, operator, or designated runner. Statewide Central Intake Senior Worker (CYFD/PSD #10118863+)

The agency is tasked with the responsibility for regulating legalized gaming at New Mexico's licensed racetracks (racinos) and veteran and fraternal organizations. In addition, the agency is responsible for investigating and enforcing violations of the laws and regulations that prohibit illegal gambling activities in the state and monitoring New Mexico's tribal gaming compacts through the appointment of a state gaming representative.
 
The Gaming Control Board members are state officials whom the Governor appoints with the advice and consent of the New Mexico State Senate.
 
The Board's licensing and certification process is rigorous and designed to ensure that both the citizens of New Mexico as well as guests to our state can enjoy gaming in a fair and honest environment. During the licensing and certification process, the audit and law enforcement staff conduct thorough investigations of a business's background, as well as that of all individuals associated with the business. The results of the investigation are then presented to the Gaming Control Board, which considers the applicant's suitability to conduct gaming operations in New Mexico.
 
While the measures employed during our application, compliance, and enforcement processes are admittedly strenuous, only by qualifying and then carefully regulating the venues and people involved in the gambling industry can we protect the public's interests.  Minimum Qualification
 
Associate degree in Social Services, Education, Government, Human Resources, or Business Administration and two (2) years of experience in customer service, administrative support, business administration, human resources, recruitment, placement, selection, compensation, benefits administration, labor relations, occupational analysis, processing personnel transactions, or eligibility determination in a public and/or social welfare program. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
 Employment Requirements

 Working Conditions
 
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Ability to lift 10 pounds.
 Work is performed in a fast-paced environment within an office and classroom setting with extensive personal computer and phone usage; some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching will be required. Must pass a national background check. Some travel may be required.

Due to the available budget allocated for this position, the hiring rate will not exceed $33.32 per hour.
 Why does the job exist?
 
The purpose of this position is for the supervision of high-risk offenders who are sentenced by the Court and/or Parole Board. This position is a Senior Probation Parole Officer position in which high risk, violent offenders, gang members, etc. are supervised under this specialized caseload. Community Supervision is also utilized under this type of caseload as well per the directives and policies of the New Mexico Corrections Department.
 How does it get done?
 
Position will supervise high risk, high needs, high profile, and specialized-circumstance offenders following sentencing by Judicial Authorities and/or Parole Board often utilizing the Community Supervision Model.

 Minimum Qualification
 
Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice or related field as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification and two (2) years of experience as a Probation and Parole Officer, commissioned or non-commissioned law enforcement officer, to include behavioral case management. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and experience in behavioral case management, commissioned or non-commissioned law enforcement, military law enforcement or as a Probation and Parole Officer totaling four (4) years, OR two (2) years as an Adult Correctional Officer, OR two (2) years in behavioral case management, OR two (2) years of probation and parole office management or administration will substitute for the required education.
 Employment Requirements
 
This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of Federal and State law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Successful completion of a series of Defensive Tactics and Restraint Courses to include exposure to Mace/OC Spray within one (1) year from date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of First Aid and CPR Courses within the one (1) year of date from hire as a condition of continued employment is required. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must be a U.S. Citizen, reached the age of 18 years old, and must not have been convicted of a felony. Must have home phone. Willing to accept travel/geographic assignment changes. May be required to carry a firearm, work odd hours and visit offenders' home. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random drug tests. Employment is conditional pending results of pre-employment drug test.
 
Statutory Requirements: 
Assignment as a Probation Parole Officer at NMCD must adhere to the following:

<li>At the time of their appointment, be citizens of the United States.</li>
<li>At the time of their appointment, have reached the age of majority.</li>
<li>Be of good moral character and not have been convicted of a felony or any crime of moral turpitude in the courts of this or any other state or in the federal courts.</li>
<li>Subject to a drug test as a condition of employment and on-going random drug testing as a condition of assignment to a safety sensitive position.</li>
<li>Successful completion of the New Mexico Department Of Corrections Basic Probation and Parole Officers Certification Training within twelve months of hire and annual re-certification.</li>
<li>Maintenance of skills in self-defense, handcuffing, baton, and chemical agents and annual re-certification.</li>
</ul>
Working Conditions
 
Work is performed in an adult prison environment, and field setting which includes daily contact with and supervision of adult offenders and or inmates. May be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
