Job Description and Requirements

Job Summary:

Conduct efficient site investigation and detailed technical analysis of earth material and risk assessment of geological hazards. Ensure geological factors affecting engineering works are identified and provided for. Review plans that conform to specific ordinances dealing with the earth and soil stability.

.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Familiarizing, reading of project specs, and verification of the SoW.
  • Conduct Site Inspection.
  • Prepare Project Time Schedule.
  • Attend project-related meetings & ensure proper coordination with clients.
  • Coordinate the site work progress.
  • Prepare Progress Reports.
  • Logging of Trial Pits Samples.
  • Prepare Lab and Schedule & Receive Lab Results.
  • Check field & Laboratory Test Results.
  • Prepare Geotechnical Report/Calculations/Designs Parameters, with the supervision of the technical team, etc.
  • Assisting in the preparations of Invoices
  • Supervise and carry out field tests such as permeability, vane shear, and pressure meter.
  • Ensure all samples are in a proper sequence and well-identified.
  • Make a visual description of encountered soil and rock materials during drilling and prepare Logs.
  • Take photographs of rock core samples and download the photos in the project folders.
  • Conduct laboratory testing schedule for the geotechnical investigation samples in coordination with the geotechnical engineer.
  • Assist geotechnical engineer in the preparation of factual and routine geotechnical reports.
  • Check the initial draft borehole and trial bit logs after typed by Data Entry and submitted to the reporting engineer for his final modification according to the lab test results.
  • Ensure proper storage and disposal of geotechnical samples.
  • Ensure customers’ requirements are carried out in accordance to contract specifications, and international or approved in-house policies and procedures.
  • Perform effective field investigations of concerned subdivisions in reference to the structural stability of existing excavations.
  • Allocate sites to drillers and arrange field geologists for site work.
  • Instruct drillers on the drilling methodology and tools.
  • Check and sign the daily drilling reports belonging to his projects on daily basis and write his notes if required.
  • Follow up on the implementation of the safety regulations and protection measures in the field.
  • Study composition, structure, and history of the site.
  • Address all types of drainage, soils, and geological requirements.
  • Examine rocks, minerals, and fossil remains to identify and determine the sequence of processes affecting the development of the earth.
  • Assess the integrity of soil, rock, groundwater, and other natural conditions prior to major construction projects.
  • Carry out special projects, specifically on engineering geology, and prepares corresponding reports.
  • Prepare and write technical proposals.
  • Ensure all drilling rigs and instruments are fit for use by implementing a calibration and maintenance program.
  • Ensure health and safety regulations during drilling and field testing are well implemented.
  • Perform site inspection during proposal stage to describe site condition, geology, and accessibility.
  • Keep records and update the required training courses such as H2S, HEWT, PTW, Operators certificates ... etc. for all staff.
  • Guide any visitor to the core description area and make a good presentation.
  • Prepare daily drilling work program, and issue work orders to drillers in accordance with project specifications and contractual agreements.
  • Collect data by utilizing various types of field instrumentation such as inclinometers, piezometers, and settlement monitoring devices.
  • Prepare laboratory testing program for geotechnical investigation.
  • Prepare geotechnical reports with the supervision of the technical manager in conformance with related standard test methods and customer requirements.
  • Organize records and files for plans and ongoing projects, including incoming & outgoing correspondences, project specifications, and drawings, lab test forms, and all related ISO forms.
  • Follow up on the implementation of field and laboratory plans and programs.
  • Design and analyze various shallow and deep foundation systems for structures, including conducting calculations with the supervision of the technical manager.
  • Any duties or responsibilities assigned by the management.

Reporting To:

This position will directly report to the Geotechnical Section Head.

Job Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology.
  • 0-2 years of experience in the field of Geology.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of geology fundamentals, structural geology, engineering geology, economic geology, mining geology, and energy resources.
  • Knowledge in drilling and field-testing methods, advanced structural geology, and physical and chemical testing of soil and rock.
  • Ability to describe soil and rock and apply industry standards and codes.
  • Competence in conducting slope stability analysis.
  • Strong skills in mathematics, calculations, statistics, and data analysis.
  • Ability to perform dewatering settlement calculations.
  • Experience in preparing both factual and interpretative geotechnical reports.
  • Excellent in MS Word and MS Outlook.
