Job Description: English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher

Position Overview: As an EAL Teacher at Diyar Schools, you will play a crucial role in supporting students for whom English is an additional language. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and deliver tailored instruction that enhances students' English language proficiency, enabling them to access the broader curriculum effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

• Instructional Planning and Delivery:
• Design and implement engaging lessons that address the diverse linguistic needs of EAL students.
• Employ a variety of teaching methodologies to facilitate language acquisition, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
• Integrate cultural awareness into lessons to help students navigate and appreciate the nuances of the English language.
• Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
• Conduct initial and ongoing assessments to determine students' language proficiency levels.
• Utilize assessment data to inform instruction and provide regular feedback to students, parents, and colleagues.
• Collaboration and Support:
• Work closely with classroom teachers to develop strategies that support EAL students within mainstream classes.
• Provide guidance and resources to staff on best practices for teaching EAL students.
• Liaise with parents to communicate students' progress and address any concerns.
• Professional Development:
• Stay current with research and developments in EAL education.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices.
• Learning Environment:
• Create a welcoming and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and confidence.
• Implement classroom management strategies that support a positive learning environment.

Performance Indicators:

• Demonstrated improvement in students' English language proficiency.
• Positive feedback from students, parents, and colleagues.
• Active participation in professional development activities.
• Effective collaboration with staff to support EAL students.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Education, English, or a related field; or Applied Linguistics is preferred.
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
• Approval from the Ministry of Education (MOE).
• Experience teaching English as an additional language across various proficiency levels.
• Strong understanding of language acquisition theories and effective EAL instructional strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
