Prince Mohammad bin Fahd University (PMU) is dedicated to advancing human knowledge, promoting innovation, and solving societal challenges through research and technology. The Network Engineer, with a focus on Cisco Collaboration, supports these goals by managing and optimizing PMU’s collaboration systems, enabling effective communication and connectivity across the university. This role is crucial in ensuring robust and secure collaboration services that enhance PMU’s academic and administrative functions.
Job Purpose

To support and enhance PMU’s network and collaboration infrastructure, focusing primarily on Cisco Collaboration solutions. This role is responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of collaboration tools, ensuring high availability, security, and optimal performance of communication services across the university. The Network Engineer will play a key role in enabling seamless and effective communication for PMU’s academic and administrative activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Major Duties/ Responsibilities:
  • Configure, deploy, and manage Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unity Connection, and Cisco Contact Center systems.
  • Administer and troubleshoot Cisco IP telephony solutions, including IP phones, gateways, and other voice endpoints.
  • Implement and maintain voice configurations, including dial plans, call routing, and auto-attendant scripts to ensure reliable communication services.
  • Design and implement VoIP network architecture, ensuring scalability, redundancy, and high availability across the campus.
  • Integrate voice and data networks by configuring Quality of Service (QoS) policies to prioritize voice traffic and maintain call quality.
  • Assess and optimize network performance for VoIP services, conducting capacity planning and load balancing.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex VoIP issues related to call quality, connectivity, and performance, providing Tier 3 support as needed.
  • Use network monitoring and diagnostic tools to proactively identify and address voice-related issues.
  • Implement security protocols to protect the Cisco Voice infrastructure, including encryption, network segmentation, and access controls.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and industry standards for data protection and privacy within voice network configurations.
  • Regularly review and update firewall rules, VPN settings, and access control lists for voice network security.
  • Provide end-user support and troubleshoot VoIP hardware/software issues to ensure uninterrupted communication.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on Cisco voice solutions, including IP phones and conferencing tools.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to integrate voice and video conferencing solutions, ensuring interoperability across systems.
  • Work with network and security teams to monitor network performance and mitigate vulnerabilities.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of voice network architecture, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Generate reports on voice network performance, call quality metrics, and incident logs for management review.

Qualifications & Experience (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 4+ years of experience directly related to network engineering and Cisco collaboration solutions.
  • Cisco certification required CCNP Collaboration preferred
  • Prior experience in a similar position is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in team-based, collaborative settings.
  • Strong initiative and the ability to work independently when necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in English; familiarity with technology-infused academic environments is a plus.
