Job Summary
The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental management system (HSE-MS) and regulations at the area of his assignment across all site activities. Duties include conducting risk assessments, enforcing safety policies and HSE procedures, inspecting work areas, delivering safety talks, equipment inspection, participating in HSE audits, walkthrough, campaigns and incident investigation. Capable to write site inspection reports and periodic HSE statistics reports as per requirements. The role requires proactive knowledge in safety culture and works closely with site teams to ensure safe, efficient, and regulation-compliant project execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or Diploma in Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of experience including 7 years as HSE personnel in the relevant field
- Should have one or more certified HSE coursed in any citatory of training in General Industrial Safety, Construction Safety, Environmental Management, Industrial Hygiene, ISO 14001/ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, NEBOSH, ASSP Certificate in Global Safety Management or equivalent Course
- Must have successfully completed First Aider Certification
- Strong knowledge of local and international HSE regulations, standards, and best practices (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001)
- Experience in conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations
- Proficient in HSE management systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent communication and training skills, with the ability to deliver safety briefings, inductions, and toolbox talks
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of promoting a proactive safety culture across multi-disciplinary teams
Responsibilities
- Monitor and enforce HSE compliance across all project activities, ensuring that work is carried out in line with project regulations, company policies, and industry safety standards.
- Conduct routine site inspections, equipment inspections and risk assessments to identify unsafe conditions, practices, or equipment, and recommend effective control measures to mitigate risks.
- Implement, and maintain safety programs and emergency response plans, ensuring that all personnel are aware of safety protocols and know how to act in case of emergencies.
- Deliver safety talks, inductions, and toolbox talks to employees, contractors, and visitors to promote awareness and understanding of site-specific hazards and safe work practices.
- Investigate accidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions, prepare detailed reports, analyze root causes, and coordinate the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of safety audits, inspections, training sessions, incident reports, permits, and compliance checklists to support regulatory reporting and internal reviews.
- Collaborate with project manager, construction manager, engineers, contractors, and consultants and clients to integrate safety into all aspects of project planning and execution, ensuring a culture of continuous safety improvement.
