Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned Sourcing & Import Manager with strong experience in coal-fired power projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for end-to-end sourcing, procurement, and import operations related to coal, power plant equipment (boilers, turbines, auxiliaries), and associated raw materials. This role requires deep understanding of coal specifications, international sourcing markets (especially China, Europe, India), import documentation, customs clearance, and vendor negotiations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source coal (local and imported), boilers, turbines, and auxiliary systems from reliable global vendors.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships, particularly with suppliers in China, India, and Europe.
  • Manage the complete import cycle including documentation, LC processing, shipment tracking, and customs clearance.
  • Conduct technical and commercial evaluations of supplier proposals in coordination with engineering and project teams.
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery timelines, warranties, and service terms with suppliers and OEMs.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant import regulations, customs rules, and trade laws.
  • Optimize procurement costs and mitigate supply risks through alternate vendor development and forecasting.
  • Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs agents, and inspection agencies for smooth shipment handling.
  • Track and report KPIs such as import lead times, landed cost, supplier performance, and project material status.
  • Support project timelines by ensuring timely sourcing and delivery of critical materials and equipment.
  • Monitor international market trends and coal pricing to inform procurement strategies.
  • Visit supplier sites (international/domestic) for quality audits and pre-dispatch inspections when required.
  • Maintain procurement records and ensure documentation accuracy for audit and compliance purposes.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline; MBA preferred.
  • 7–10 years of sourcing/import experience with a focus on coal-fired power projects.
  • Strong knowledge of coal types, boilers, turbines, and balance-of-plant equipment.
  • Deep understanding of import processes, HS codes, customs duties, and trade documentation.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence vendors.
  • Experience using ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Odoo, etc.) and strong Excel proficiency.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for supplier visits and inspections.
