Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director of Alumni Relations and Reunion Giving, the Student and Young Alumni Coordinator collaborates with members of the campus community to plan, promote and execute student and alumni events and campus traditions and oversees various programs, including the official ring program, Young Alumni Council, Student Alumni Council and Senior Week.
- Plans and executes annual events with the alumni team and Student Alumni Council (SAC), including Ghost Tours, Annual Tree Lighting, Garnet & Gold Fridays, Ring Ceremony, Grad Finale and other student programs coordinated through the Alumni Association.
- Advises the SAC: guides executive committee meetings, provides oversight for student leader development, and sets and manages the student program calendar.
- Manages the young alumni engagement program, including the Young Alumni Council, to encourage participation in on-campus and regional events; trains volunteers; and helps University Advancement with efforts to cultivate donors and implement annual appeals.
- Manages Winthrop’s official ring program in collaboration with Barnes & Noble, the on-campus bookstore; serves as liaison for the ring vendor (Jostens), including creating and approving marketing materials and supporting event logistics; serves as primary point of contact for alumni ring inquiries; and plans the annual Ring Ceremony.
- Manages Senior Week to engage graduating seniors as new alumni and welcome them to the Alumni Association and collaborates with the Annual Giving team on the class gift program.
- Provides planning and logistical support for all aspects of Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, including managing the Alumni Association tailgate and Homecoming Happy Hour.
- Manages Class Notes for Winthrop Magazine.
- Assists campus partners in sending event emails and newsletters.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- Familiarity with social media content management and event creation.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to adhere to strict deadlines while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to take the initiative in developing, organizing and implementing programs/projects.
- Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni, administrators and the general public.
- Good computer skills and the ability to master software required to perform duties at a high level.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of event planning, alumni relations, student development, young alumni development, volunteer management, public relations or related experience in higher education.
- Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge software and Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Additional Comments
Travel/Overtime Requirements: Frequent work outside normal business hours. Travel required for alumni events.
