Position Description Summary



Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for a Web Content and Design Manager.

This position is responsible for creating and constantly improving online user experiences, primarily through the College website and related services. Working closely with teams and individuals across the College, this team member will constantly manage web content and UX through the cycle of research, design, project management, implementation, communication, and user testing.

Includes evaluating specifications and issuing project timelines and schedules. Must have a keen eye and skills for clean and artful, user-centered design, and an ability to communicate and advocate for evidence-based and innovative ideas. The Web Content and Design Manager must be passionate about best practices, advancements in technology, design trends, and must find creative ways to integrate successful user experience into the HFC online environment. Attention to accessibility and analytics are also central to this position. Student success is our core mission at Henry Ford College. While working independently is a component of the job, this is a team-oriented position in which enjoyment of people and a sense of humor will contribute significantly to success.

Hours: 8:00 to 4:30 Monday through Friday
Moderate hybrid work might be available after a period of proven teamwork and productivity. Most of the work is expected to take place in a collaborative team environment on our main Dearborn campus. Schedule changes will be determined and finalized with a supervisor at the time of hire and may change based on departmental needs and College operations. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be necessary.

Core Competencies and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, expertise, and experience.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related technologies.
  • Strong design skills and experience with modern UI/UX standards and trends, including responsive design.
  • Proficiency with prototyping and photo editing tools, such as Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Experience with professional CMS tools – we are a Drupal shop.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG), tools, equipment, and technologies.
  • Familiarity with common social media platforms, SEO, content strategy and integration, and digital analytics.
The most successful candidate will have a career that reflects the following:
  • Experience with website design and building using JavaScript frameworks.
  • Experience with Git or similar source code management tools.
  • Experience with PHP or other web development languages.
  • Familiarity with the principles and practices of team-based project management.

Requirements Analysis - Knowledge of the principles and methods to identify, analyze, specify, design, and manage functional and infrastructure requirements; includes translating functional requirements into technical requirements used for logical design or presenting alternative technologies or approaches.

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in:
  • Candidate must provide examples of prior individual work demonstrating clean HTML and CSS design that incorporates responsive design techniques and meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards. (Portfolio or repository.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to

  • Identify and prioritize projects according to the College's strategic goals, marketing and recruitment objectives, and other department requirements.
  • Communicate often and effectively with teammates, faculty, students, and other stakeholders with a goal of continuous improvement and end-user success.
  • Manage projects, document project progress, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • In a team-oriented environment, maintain and update HFC website content, theme, display, and front-end functionality, using design, accessibility, SEO, and UX best practices.
  • Review College websites to identify areas of improvement using analytics, QA tools, and best practices.
  • Work with Web Accessibility Manager to set and achieve best-practice web accessibility and universal design goals.
  • Maintain documentation, instructions, and guidelines for internal use.
  • Support project implementation and development using presentations, one-on-one training, and multi-layered communications to users about new feature launches to advocate for adoption of new technology.
  • Keep current and help update the team on standards, trends, and requirements for modern web applications.
  • Collaboratively report on project progress and accomplishments toward goals.
  • May include responsibilities for web analytics and reporting.
  • Assist with cross-training team members.
  • Other duties as trained and qualified to do as assigned.
