Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Manager, the Phebotomist perform all job functions to ensure the professional, accurate and efficient processing of specimens and patients. Must be able to work flexible hours and have excellent customer service skills. The Phlebotomist has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe and accurate manner following all established practices and procedures for specimen collection and processing.
Job Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Perform veni-puncture, finger sticks and heel punctures on adults and pediatric patients.</li>
<li>Perform EKGs for patients.</li>
<li>Process blood specimens by accessioning, spinning and packaging for transport.</li>
<li>Coordinate specimen pick-ups and tracking of specimens when necessary.</li>
<li>Use appropriate sterile and precautionary procedures when drawing patient specimens; properly identify patient before culture, tube, or whatever technique is required for proper collection of the specimen.</li>
<li>Follow all ColumbiaDoctors&rsquo; policies and procedures including but not limited to Patient Verification, Specimen Collections, Specimen Labeling and Refrigerator and Freezer Temperature Monitoring.
</li><li>Follows established specimen handling guidelines and precautions as described in processing laboratories Test Menu/Directory without deviation from these established guidelines.</li>
<li>Verifies patient identity and performs positive patient identification accurately and without error to ensure the safety of patients and the accuracy of the lab test results.</li>
<li>Responsible for labeling all specimens legibly and accurately without error at time of draw, with all pertinent information as required by hospital and departmental standards.</li>
<li>Accurately explains urine and stool sample collection to patients and emphasizes the importance that proper collection plays in the accuracy of lab test results.</li>
<li>Follows universal precaution standards for each venipuncture or nasal swab collection.</li>
<li>Properly disinfects and maintains the draw room area for specimen collections to ensure a clean and safe environment.</li>
<li>Recognizes the signs and symptoms associated with an adverse reaction to a venipuncture and follows the proper protocols to maintain patient safety. Documents the adverse reaction in SafetyZone.</li>
<li>Responsible for assuring specimen integrity from the point of obtaining the specimen at the Central Draw Station through courier pick up</li>
<li>Courier pick-up times are recognized and the specimen are prepared and placed in correct specimen pick up box in advance of the courier&rsquo;s arrival?.</li>
<li>If couriers fail to arrive at the predetermined time, phlebotomists follow-up with courier to guarantee specimen are picked up immediately.</li>
<li>Responsible for the inventory and supplies necessary for specimen collection and overall operation of the Central Draw Station.</li>
<li>Train new staff in job responsibilities.</li>
<li>May assist Supervisor/Manager with special projects as needed.</li>
<li>Communicates insurance participation, financial responsibility (if applicable).</li>
<li>Add patients to the Lab schedule in Epic, verify demographics and insurance and update as needed.</li>
<li>Performs other related duties as assigned.</li>
</ul>
Job Qualifications:
<ul><li>High school diploma or equivalency is required.</li>
<li>License/Certificate: Phlebotomy Technician or Credentialed Medical Assistant, including NYS 12-Lead ECG certification.</li>
<li>Experience in phlebotomy desirable.</li>
<li>Candidate must demonstrate strong customer service orientation and the ability to deliver consistent exceptional service while demonstrating tact, respect and sensitivity.
</li><li>Excellent relationship management skills including, but not limited to, emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, empathy, and ability to handle situations with respect, tact and sensitivity.</li>
<li>Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient/family population demonstrating tact and sensitivity in stressful situations.</li>
<li>Prior experience in EPIC is preferred.</li>
<li>Prior experience in medical office setting or a customer service environment is preferred.</li>
<li>Bilingual English/Spanish a plus, but not required.</li>
</ul>
Hourly Rate Ranges: $21.25 - $30.05

Job Summary:
The Medical Scribe will be responsible for documenting accurate and detailed information of patient visits. A summary of a Medical Scribe's duties include performing clerical and information technology functions for a physician in a clinic setting, including primary responsibility of the operation of the electronic health records and electronic dictation system.
Job Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Prepare charts for physicians prior to each session, including reviewing previous notes for patient, creating office note for upcoming visits and populate it with relevant data from previous visits and history</li>
<li>Transcribes details of the interview and physical exam per physical instruction utilizing medical terminology and documentation guidelines within the EMR</li>
<li>Completes all necessary documentation of the patient encounter in the medical chart including entering orders and billing codes as dictated by the physician</li>
<li>Maintains a list of patient tests keeping track of results as they become available (provider dependent)</li>
<li>Scans and files lab reports/test results and charts via electronic medical record alerting the physician as laboratory or radiology results become available (provider dependent)</li>
<li>Follows up on lab reports and tracks any missing or delayed studies (provider dependent)</li>
<li>Performs other duties as directed by physician or supervisor</li>
<li>Scribes may not act independently but documents the physician's or licensed independent practitioner's dictation and/or activities</li>
</ul>
Job Requirements:
<ul><li>High School diploma required; college graduate preferred</li>
<li>0-1 years of experience must possess strong organizational skills and be detail oriented</li>
<li>Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments to the extent required to understand and accurately transcribe dictated reports</li>
<li>Translate medical abbreviations into their expanded forms</li>
<li>Previous Electronic Medical records experience preferred; EPIC experience preferred</li>
<li>Certification as a Medical Scribe is preferred</li>
<li>Spanish-speaking preferred</li>
</ul>
Hourly Rate Ranges: $20.67 - $29.81
