Candidates practicing under the direction of a licensed Massachusetts physical therapist must sign their documentation by designating their authorizing academic credential (e.g., DPT or MSPT). The regulation requires licensed physical therapists to co-sign the candidate&rsquo;s documentation. New graduates, who have submitted a complete and accepted application for licensure, and out of state licensed physical therapists are expected to obtain Massachusetts license within 3-6 months of hire date. The Patient Access Representative handles patient questions and requests accurately and efficiently, ideally with first-call resolution, or by making appropriate referrals to other departments, based on the original purpose of the question and any other questions or requests subsequently disclosed by the patient. Registration:</p>

1. Registers patients presenting for visits. Explains the registration process to patients and responds to patient questions.</p>

2. Processes patient co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles, and balances due. Safeguards cash, checks and receipts and reconciles cash drawer at the end of each business day. Assists patients with Kiosk check-in as needed.</p>
<p>
3. Completes the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire for each patient and adjusts patient coverage based on results.</p>
<p>
4. Instructs patients and obtains signatures on consent forms, financial forms, and other documents required by the clinical department; distributes documents to patients; scans, processes, and records receipt of all documents collected during registration encounter.</p>

5. Counsels patients regarding non-covered services, obtaining signatures on Advance Notice Beneficiaries (ABNs), consents and waivers.</p>

6. Monitors patient waiting area for a smooth, efficient registration flow. Advises patients of potential delays and takes steps to ensure a pleasant patient experience.</p>

20. Communicates financial clearance status to patients. Advises patients of contract status, self-pay status, and payment responsibility and schedules patients with Financial Counseling as needed.</p>

Essential Responsibilities:</b></p>
<ul>
<li><p>Performs medical assisting duties which may include, but are not limited to, vital signs, height and weight, EKGs, performing phlebotomy and assisting during routine procedures. Ensures that all patient care areas are clean, organized, stocked and ready for patient use. Escorts patients to ancillary service areas such as radiology and lab as needed.</p>
</li>
<li><p>Performs appropriate point of care testing, such as lab tests and specimen collection. Implements quality control standards to ensure proper functioning and accuracy of testing equipment. Provides patients with relevant instructions for specific tests and procedures.</p>
</li>
<li><p>Monitors, orders and/or maintains medical equipment and supplies, ensuring they are clean, sterilized, stocked and within expiration dates.</p>
</li>
<li><p>Performs initial review of medication lists in the electronic medical record for final review by licensed practitioners. May retrieve schedule VI and over the counter medications only, under supervision of licensed providers; is not authorized to perform licensed personnel duties, which include but are not limited to drawing up medications, medication administration or flushing IVs.</p>
</li>
<li><p>Uses the electronic medical record system (OMR) to queue prescription renewals for review by a licensed provider. As directed by a clinician, enters/scribes orders for tests, services or appointments in OMR. During the visit, accurately documents tasks, as they are completed, in OMR to ensure proper billing (Facility Worksheet).</p>
</li>
<li><p>Prepares schedules, patient charts and other documents as needed for clinical activities, in accordance with Medical Center standards. Procures and correlates medical correspondence as directed by department.</p>
</li>
<li><p>Monitors patients and visitors entering, waiting, and leaving the practice. Facilitates timely flow and informs patients and providers of delays in a timely manner. Acts as liaison between patient and practice staff to ensure optimal flow and service delivery. Ensures waiting room materials are organized and stocked as directed by the department. May answer and screen telephone calls.</p>
