Performs skilled HVAC maintenance, installation and repair work for the purpose of ensuring proper, efficient and safe working conditions of HVAC systems in city buildings and facilities; uses a variety of equipment and tools to include vacuum pumps, refrigerant recovery machine, oxy/acetylene tanks, saws, drills and scaffolds.</div><div></div><div><br>
Receives work orders and determines work to be performed; obtains materials, equipment and supplies; plans sequence of work, and prepares work site by clearing and setting up needed protective devices; completes work orders and maintains records of work performed and materials used.</div><div></div><div><br>
Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on refrigeration equipment and ice machines; diagnoses and repairs problems; removes and replaces damaged parts; installs new parts and or systems for multiple heating and air conditioning equipment; recovers Freon from systems using recovery equipment and procedures.</div><div></div><div><br>
Maintains tools and equipment; evaluates equipment performance and parts durability and reports findings for consideration in procurement of new equipment; submits requisitions for new, replacement and additional materials and supplies as needed; loads and unloads materials and equipment on trucks, and transports materials to work sites as needed.</div><div></div><div><br>
Performs a variety of maintenance duties and provides assistance to other trades workers in the department; serves as the lead for assistants and subordinate craft workers; provides technical guidance and assists with problem solving.</div><div></div><div><br>

Provides assistance to readers in the use of reference tools such as bibliographies and computer catalogs; reserves books and other materials as requested by patrons, and notifies patrons on the availability of reserved materials; determines status of loaned materials and fines owed on overdue materials, and prepares and mails overdue notices.</div><div></div><div><br>

Under general supervision, operates a variety of motorized equipment for the waste management. Reports to an Equipment Operator Supervisor.<br>

Operates equipment such as automated and/or semi-automated solid waste collection vehicle; rear loaders, roll off trucks and refuse trucks on an assigned route; picks up solid waste at each designated stop; loads waste into collection vehicle; replaces garbage cans to appropriate location; when truck reaches capacity, transports waste to dump site; unloads collected trash; and then returns to route until route is complete; collects and removes solid waste and debris from assigned areas throughout the city.<br>
<br>
Performs daily inspection of solid waste vehicles to ensure proper working condition; inspects tires, lights, blades, fuel, fluids, windshield wipers; assists in cleaning solid waste collection vehicles; repairs on solid waste vehicles to include replacing and replenishing oil, water and lubricants; cleaning blades; reports any tree limbs, utility lines or other possible obstructions.<br>

Ensures the safety of city equipment, private property, and others by following proper safety procedures, watching for pedestrians, private property, overhead utility lines and other utilities or obstructions. Provides instructions and trains operators in the safety procedures and processes necessary during the pick of solid waste and debris on assigned route.<br>

Performs routine checks and preventive maintenance on equipment; identifies and reports equipment malfunctions; cleans equipment as needed.<br>

<b>EDUCATION &amp; EXPERIENCE</b><br>

Requires completion of 10th grade in high school or equivalent; and 1 to 2 years of experience in heavy equipment operation, waste management collection or any equivalent combination of education and experience necessary to perform the essential job functions of this position.<br>
<br>
<b>SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS</b></p><div><br>
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check.</div><br>
Requires satisfactory results from a pre-employment medical evaluation and pre-employment substance abuse testing and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.<br>
<br>
A valid commercial driver&rsquo;s license or a commercial driver&rsquo;s instruction permit with the ability to obtain a commercial driver&rsquo;s license within 90 days of hire with an acceptable driving record.</div><p></p>

Must be physically able to operate a solid waste collection vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are for Heavy Work.<br>

Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.<br>

Interpersonal Communications: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments and directions from superiors.<br>

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read simple forms. Requires the ability to prepare time sheets and leave slips using prescribed format. Requires the ability to communicate effectively in Standard English.<br>

Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.<br>

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently using Standard English, and mechanical, technical and electrical terminology.<br>

Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add and subtract.<br>

Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.<br>

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using a solid waste collection vehicle.<br>

Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, garbage cans and a solid waste collection vehicle. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.<br>
<br>
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.<br>
<br>
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress.<br>

Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear).</p><div><div><div><b><br>
