<div>Councilor, BuchananMitchell, P.C. (Councilor), an accounting and business advisory firm that serves clients throughout Washington, DC, Baltimore, and the Mid-Atlantic region, is currently seeking a dedicated senior tax professional with at least six years of public accounting and tax experience to work primarily on compilation/review and tax engagements for our clients.
Remote work in the United Statesflexible schedule are available.
Essential Functions<ul><li>
Manage tax related processes, procedures, and team</li><li>
Prepare personal, corporate, estate, and trust tax returns, including more complex cases</li><li>
Review and approve all returns, with the exception of those dealing with specialized issues requiring the expertise of another manager or director</li><li>
Review tax accruals and associated working papers</li><li>
Assume responsibility for the smooth flow of tax returns</li><li>
Act as director-in-charge for a variety of clients, and act as key client for a variety of engagements</li><li>
Bill and discuss fees with clients</li><li>
Complete complex tax planning, including preparation of BNA projections</li><li>
Analyze IRS notices and draft responses</li><li>
Review IRS notice responses prepared by other tax personnel</li><li>
Represent clients before the IRS</li><li>
Communicate tax developments to the firm</li><li>
Perform more complex tax research and review the research projects of others</li><li>
Assist accounting and auditing staff members in client meetings</li><li>
Delegate work to and supervise/manage work of tax staff, senior tax accountants, and tax supervisors</li><li>
Participate in tax department administrative projects</li><li>
Work with directors to establish standards for the tax staff and evaluate and counsel tax staff members</li><li>
Act as a resource for tax staff, senior tax accountants, tax supervisors, and tax managers</li><li>
Contribute to the client service team by producing quality work with quick turnaround and attentive service</li><li>
Develop a general understanding of the firm's philosophy and tax opinions</li><li>
Establish good working relationships with all directors and staff members</li></ul>
Other Functions<ul><li>
Possess time management and organization skills</li><li>
Demonstrate industry expertise</li><li>
Assist with recruitment and training of other tax department personnel</li><li>
Develop an entrepreneurial approach to client service and develop good working relationships with client personnel</li><li>
Maintain contacts with peers, develop a network of business contacts, meet with prospective clients, and cultivate referrals</li><li>
Write articles and make presentations</li><li>
Develop a broad general knowledge of economic, political, and business conditions</li><li>
Accept volunteer positions in community organizations</li><li>
Perform other duties as assigned</li></ul>
Job Qualifications<ul><li>
Bachelor's degree in accounting or another related program</li><li>
Advanced degree (generally a law degree or a master's in taxation) is strongly desired</li><li>
CPA certification</li><li>
At least six years of recent relevant public accounting, tax, and review experience (experience with trusts is a plus)</li><li>
At least two years of management experience and the ability to lead and develop professional staff</li><li>
Proficiency in the use of computers and tax software programs (Document, Engagement, CCH Suite - Axcess Tax, QuickBooks, etc.)</li><li>
Ability to manage multiple client engagements and prioritize work</li></ul>
