The Northeast Health District is looking for a Communicable Disease Specialist (CDS). Under general supervision, collects and monitors data regarding communicable diseases with a focus on sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV. Coordinates clinic referrals, conducts field visits, and provides patient education/counseling and partner services. Ensures implementation of timely disease intervention strategies to decrease disease prevalence in the community. Completes documentation of all case investigations occurring within the district and analyzes data as indicated. Collaborates accordingly with internal and external partners and has strong communication skills.</p><br>
As a Communicable Disease Specialist within the Northeast Health District at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.</div><p></p>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Job Responsibilities</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><ul><li>Completes partner services interviews, re-interviews, and cluster interviews on assigned cases and contacts and provides timely updates to supervisor as indicated.</li><li>
Prepares and maintains records and reports on program activities and provides accurate documentation of case activities as required and in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.</li><li>
Works and communicates with clients, external partners, and the public to provide evidence-based information and quality customer service.</li><li>
Conducts home visits and other types of field investigations for persons at risk for STIs/HIV including locating hard to reach clients and connecting them to care.</li><li>
Obtains medical and epidemiological histories, performs investigations, data collection and analysis, interpretation and responses.</li><li>
Performs pre and post-test HIV counseling and point-of-care testing on patients and contacts as indicated.</li><li>
Participate in community screenings, health fairs, and pop-up events throughout the district as needed.</li><li>
Assists in emergency preparedness response efforts as needed.</li></ul></div><p></p>

<div><p>Associate degree in medical and preventive services from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience in a related field.</p><p><b><br>

<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Job Responsibilities</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><p>The Georgia Department of Public Health is looking for applicants to assist in case-patient interviewing, data entry, data collection, data management, medical chart reviews, and other clerical work to support notifiable disease surveillance activities. The position includes calling case-patients to conduct interviews related to communicable disease surveillance, special studies, and outbreak investigations. Data entry and management responsibilities will include using various databases, such as Excel and the Georgia electronic notifiable disease surveillance system. Although the person filling this position will have the opportunity to learn about notifiable disease surveillance in general, the focus will be following up on reportable enteric disease case-patients and invasive bacterial disease surveillance conducted by the Emerging Infections Program.</p><p>
The position is intended for applicants enrolled in an accredited public health degree program as the intention of the job duties is to provide applied public health knowledge, skills, and experience. Employees in this position are temporary.</p><p>
The incumbent will be employed for approximately 15-20 hours per week. The pay will be $15 an hour. Currently, this position will work in a hybrid environment. The schedule is flexible, but the employee must conduct interviews, enter data, and perform other activities at the Department of Public Health offices in downtown Atlanta during normal business hours for more than half of the total weekly work time. Additional interviews and duties can be conducted during weeknight and weekend hours. As part of a practicum experience, the student will:</p><ul><li><p>
Gain an understanding of how notifiable disease surveillance functions.</p></li><li><p>
Understand how outbreak investigations are conducted.</p></li><li><p>
May have an opportunity to analyze notifiable disease surveillance, study, and/or outbreak data.</p></li></ul></div><p></p>

<div><p>Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND currently enrolled in a graduate program relevant to the area of assignment and one year of work-related experience<br>
