 What You Will Be Doing
 
 
 
 The
 
 Research Assistant I (Education)
 
 position will primarily support the educational endeavors of the Division of Rheumatology, Hospital for Special Surgery/Weill Cornell Medicine. In addition, there will be the opportunity to be involved with clinical research studies.
 
 
 
 Position Accountabilities
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Help coordinate multi-institutional education programs for medical students, residents and fellows at HSS, New York Presbyterian Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine.
 </li>
 <li>
 Work with the Rheumatology Program Director to prepare and coordinate the yearly Rheumatology Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (ROSCE)
 </li>
 <li>
 Function as the primary coordinator for CLASS-Rheum, a national internet-based epidemiology curriculum for rheumatology fellows, based at Hospital for Special Surgery
 </li>
 <li>
 Send out letters to study subjects inviting them to participate in studies
 </li>
 <li>
 Administer questionnaires to study subjects in person, by mail or by phone
 </li>
 <li>
 Act as a resource for study subjects regarding study consent forms
 </li>
 <li>
 Act as a liaison between physicians, physicians&rsquo; office staff and study participants
 </li>
 <li>
 Coordinate study subjects visits with physician schedules
 </li>
 <li>
 Be a contact person for study subjects regarding questions about study protocols
 </li>
 <li>
 Call study subjects between visits to ensure compliance and to answer any questions
 </li>
 <li>
 Build, maintain electronic databases, and create electronic data collection forms, e.g. REDCap
 </li>
 <li>
 -Data entry into an electronic database
 </li>
 <li>
 Organize and maintain all studies&rsquo; paperwork
 </li>
 <li>
 Coordinate all IRB submissions for Education Studies
 </li>
 <li>
 Submit abstracts to academic meetings to disseminate study results
 </li>
 <li>
 Help create posters, PowerPoint presentations, and manuscripts of study results
 </li>
 <li>
 Obtain tissue samples from the operating room, as necessary
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 This is an ideal position for a pre-medical student who has a particular interest in medical education. The successful applicant for this position will be an organized individual who is able to perform a variety of different tasks essential to the conduct of a clinical study. He or she will be flexible, as the job description may evolve as studies progress. The Research Assistant will have access to the medical records of patients, and should appreciate this privilege, and maintain strict confidentiality with all patient medical data. The Research Assistant will also have good interpersonal skills, as he or she will be interfacing directly with patients on a routine basis.

Assist in the synchronization of research activities under the direction of the Director and serves as a liaison between the clinicians, research staff, and other research assistants. 
Provide overall administrative &amp; study specific support for research activities including but not limited to: providing timely reports to Director, Institutional Review Board, Principal Investigator, National Institutes of Health and/or sponsor for each research project as well as participating stakeholders.
Program &amp; Communication Strategy
<ul><li>Understand the required components of data collection (PROMS - HOOS,JR /KOOS,JR and PROMIS-Global -10, Contralateral joint pain, Back pain, and Narcotics usage)
</li><li>Work with relevant stakeholders to develop impactful outreach strategies, including frequency of outreach and customization of messaging
</li><li>Share best practices with relevant stakeholders and codify approach
</li></ul>Patient Engagement &amp; Data Collection
<ul><li>Enter data responses to questionnaires into the electronic database/ EMR
</li><li>Prepare and send mailings and emails of follow-up questionnaires
</li><li>Call patients to follow-up with questionnaires and enter responses
</li><li>Act as a liaison between surgeons and patients regarding opportunities to increase collection
</li><li>Assist in generating reports and summary data
</li><li>Assist with coordinating meetings with relevant stakeholders to review data

</li></ul>Ensures that all research related regulatory, institutional, and departmental compliance requirements are met as appropriate. 
Facilitates completion of all internal documentation needed for research (IRB applications, conflict of interest forms, data collection forms, etc.) 
Assists in patient care coordination by assuring the completion of research specific protocols integrate well with the patient&rsquo;s clinical episode of care if the protocol requires
Maintains and enhances professional growth through participation in seminars, research meetings, ARJR grand rounds, and internal training sessions to keep abreast of trends in the field of Arthroplasty research.
