<div>SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:<ul><li>
Selects and organizes materials (print and non-print) to enrich and support the curriculwn by making these materials available to students and staff.</li></ul> 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:<ul><li>
Provides instruction in library skills.</li><li>
Provides individual assistance to students doing research work.</li><li>
Selects materials for the library with input from teachers.</li><li>
Possesses and catalogues materials (print and non-print) for circulation.</li><li>
Maintains card catalog.</li><li>
Keeps students and teachers informed concerning the arrival of new materials.</li><li>
Develops a library use schedule with the approval of the principal.</li><li>
Does minor book repairs and sends books in need of major repairs to bindery.</li><li>
Coordinates the maintenance of audio-visual equipment within the budgetary limit.</li><li>
Coordinates the use of audio-visual equipment.</li><li>
Inventories library materials periodically (yearly if necessary).</li><li>
Acts as a resource in the development of bibliographies.</li><li>
Encourages positive life time reading habits in students.</li><li>
Maintains the library as a center of learning activities in the school.</li><li>
Participates in staff development.</li><li>
Prepares reports as required.</li><li>
Performs all other duties as assigned by the principal.</li></ul> 
WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS WORKED:<ul><li>
The teacher will work in a school setting, climate controlled environment adhering to School Board energy policy and in the outside areas which are subject to climate extremes.</li><li>
Work day consists of hours at assigned school site according to bargaining unit agreement.</li></ul> 
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:<ul><li>
A certified librarian must be able to communicate in standard English both orally and in writing.</li><li>
Communication must be commensurate with age and skill of listener.</li><li>
Must have ability to accurately give and receive information via tele-communication system.</li><li>
Must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with the public.</li><li>
Must be able to accurately compile and access data, summarize information and provide written report to supervisor.</li><li>
Must have ability to represent school system at various public functions.</li></ul> 
EQUIPMENT USED:<ul><li>
Telephone, typewriter, micro computer, facsimile machine, calculator, copy machine, printers, folding machines, intercom and P.A. systems, audio-visual equipment and distance learning equipment.</li></ul> 
PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:<ul><li>
Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, running, observing and monitoring student behavior in all facets of the school environment is required during the work day.</li><li>
Must be able to operate all library equipment.</li><li>
Reaching, bending, lifting 10 pounds is sometimes required as well as the physical restraint of another person or persons.</li><li>
Ability to provide own transportation to school, work location(s) and meeting sites.</li><li>
Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations.</li></ul> 
MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:<ul><li>
Must be able to plan and implement appropriate education programs for all students.</li><li>
Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.</li><li>
Must keep accurate, up-to-date library records.</li><li>
Must be able to comply with state and parish regulations.</li><li>
Must be able to utilize effective classroom anagement techniques.</li></ul> 
HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT:<ul><li>
Must be able to work compatibly in group settings.</li><li>
Must serve as a resource to administrators, faculty, staff, students, parents and community.</li><li>
Must be able to respond positively to supervision and to accept suggestions for improvement.</li></ul> 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:<ul><li>
Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate</li><li>
School Librarian Certification</li></ul>
