The role:

The Cloud Platform team builds and operates the shared infrastructure and developer tooling that every engineering team at Liberis depends on. We're now running all new services in GCP and are actively migrating onto GCP from our legacy Azure platform. As we scale our use of AI, we're looking to add a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer with an emphasis on AI Enablement to help build and run the shared infrastructure our product teams depend on and to expand how we use AI across the platform.

Our services are built in .NET, Node.js, and Python, primarily on both GCP and Azure. You'll work across the platform stack, and you'll be the person nudging us to make AI a practical, everyday part of how we build and operate. You'll spot where AI can make the platform and the teams on it faster, from AI-assisted developer tooling to agents that take real work off people's plates, and you'll help turn those ideas into things people use, with the guardrails and cost controls that make them safe to run. 


What you'll get to do in the role:

<li>Build and maintain the cloud infrastructure and tooling our product teams rely on, across compute, networking, CI/CD, and deployment on Kubernetes or Cloud Run.</li>
<li>Champion AI agent adoption across the platform: spot where agents can take on real work, prototype it, and turn the promising work into supported, reusable capabilities teams can build on.</li>
<li>Build the foundations for AI agents: integrations with Claude, the tools and services agents call, and the orchestration that ties them together.</li>
<li>Wire observability, guardrails, and cost controls into the AI agents and tooling we run, so they stay safe and predictable in production.</li>
<li>Work hands-on with the AI tooling and agent frameworks we build on &mdash; Claude in particular, which we use extensively &mdash; and bring what you learn back to the wider team.</li>
<li>Manage infrastructure with Terraform, keeping environments consistent, auditable, and reproducible.</li>
<li>Contribute to our Azure-to-GCP migration thinking, especially what it means for our AI tooling and agents.</li>
<li>Partner with product engineers to lower the barrier to using AI, writing the docs, templates, and examples that drive adoption.</li></ul> 


What we think you'll need:

<li>Genuine enthusiasm for AI agents and a desire to help us adopt them well. You don't need a machine-learning or model-training background &mdash; this is about building with tools like Claude, not training or serving models &mdash; but you should be keen to learn and to lead by doing.</li>
<li>Strong GCP experience (Azure experience is nice to have)</li>
<li>Comfortable with containerisation (Docker) and deployment on Kubernetes or Cloud Run.</li>
<li>Infrastructure-as-code with Terraform.</li>

About our Data &amp; Insights Team:

We exist to build the data platforms and analytics that enable every decision at Liberis to be data-informed&mdash;and increasingly, to power AI and ML capabilities across the company!

We're building composable, reliable data platforms that scale&mdash;from ingesting partner transaction data and event streams, to powering analytics dashboards, to feeding ML models with real-time features. We're also supporting the AI/ML platform team with reliable, low-latency feature pipelines and model serving infrastructure.

The team is made up of three functions:

Data Platform Engineering: Building and scaling ELT pipelines, managing data infrastructure on GCP, and creating the foundation for analytics and ML feature stores. You'll be part of a small, high-performing team of platform engineers focused on reliability, scale, and developer velocity.

Analytics Engineering: Transform raw data into trusted models using DBT and SQL, powering self-serve analytics and business intelligence for stakeholders across the company.

Data &amp; Business Intelligence: Build dashboards, partner-facing reports, and insights that drive business decisions and revenue outcomes. 


What you'll get to do in the role:

<li>Design, build, and maintain resilient data pipelines that ingest data from Azure SQL, SaaS platforms, and event streams into BigQuery.</li>
<li>Write Python code using DLT to define declarative, testable, version-controlled pipelines - no low-code tools, real engineering.</li>
<li>Build and operate ML feature pipelines - low-latency, real-time data streams that feed ML models with accurate, fresh features.</li>
<li>Own the operational health of systems you build - monitoring, alerting, error handling, and incident response. When the data pipeline goes down, merchant credit decisions and ML model predictions suffer.</li>
<li>Collaborate with analytics engineers to understand data needs, validate schema design, and establish data quality standards that both analytics and ML rely on.</li>
<li>Partner with the AI/ML platform team to design feature stores, streaming feature infrastructure, and model serving pipelines that power Liberis' decisioning engine.</li>
<li>Identify and execute optimisation work - improving performance, reliability, and developer velocity without rearchitecting stable systems.</li>
<li>Mentor junior engineers, helping them grow as engineers and supporting their career development.</li>
<li>Participate in technical decisions about platform direction - infrastructure choices, tooling, architecture trade-offs.</li>

What we think you'll need:
<ul>
<li>Proven experience within data engineering roles -building and operating data pipelines at scale</li>
<li>Hands-on experience building Modern Data Stack architectures - you understand the layers: ingestion, warehouse, transformation, orchestration, reverse ETL. You've worked with tools like DLT/Fivetran/Airbyte (ingestion), BigQuery/Snowflake/Redshift (warehouse), DBT (transformation), Airflow/similar (orchestration).</li>
<li>Strong Python programming - you write clean, testable, maintainable code with solid error handling and logging.</li>
<li>Fluent SQL - you can write complex queries, understand execution plans, and optimize for performance and cost.</li>
<li>Experience with cloud data platforms - you've built data warehouses in BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, or similar; you understand distributed processing, partitioning, cost optimization, and data governance.</li>

The role:

At Liberis, we're building a global engineering team that thrives on autonomy, ownership, and focused on impact. Our engineers don't just write code &mdash; they solve real-world problems for small businesses, shaping products that unlock opportunity at scale. As a Senior Engineer, you will be a key mentor to other members of the Engineering team - supporting us to continually develop and push the boundaries of what a scaling, multi-product FinTech organisation can achieve!

We're hiring across a number of teams in our Engineering org, so we'd love to have a conversation about where you could make the biggest impact!

You'll start with an informal chat with Chess (our Internal Recruiter), who will give you more insight into Liberis and what you're looking for next. From there, we'll talk you through the teams we're hiring for and look at which roles could be the best fit.

Whether you're passionate about building customer-facing products, scaling platforms, working with data, or exploring how AI can transform the way we build software, we're looking for engineers who enjoy solving complex problems and taking ownership of what they deliver!

What We Think You'll Need
<ul>
<li>Proven success writing code in two or more programming languages.</li>
<li>A willingness to learn our tech stack - mostly C# .net, Node and React.</li>
<li>Proven experience developing APIs and services</li>
<li>An understanding of working with Agile methods, such as Extreme Programming, Kanban, or Scrum.</li>
<li>Experience mentoring more junior team members.</li>
<li>Resilience in early-stage business situations, where requirements are evolving and experimentation is required.</li>
<li>Bonus points if you have experience of cloud technologies (we are moving to GCP); experience using highly collaborative methods such as ensemble, mob, or pair programming; experience writing financial software; or experience with Test Driven Development.</li></ul> 


N.B - there is an 'on-call' element to this role, which Chess will outline at the screening stage
