The News Literacy Project empowers educators to teach middle and high school students how to sort fact from fiction in the digital age. We are at an exciting inflection point for our work, and we are making critical investments to rapidly scale our growth and impact. To that end, we are seeking an Office Manager to oversee office administration and ensure efficient day-to-day operations. This is a great opportunity for you to support the operational foundation of a mission-driven organization and help ensure staff across the country have what they need to succeed. We&rsquo;re looking for someone who can have an immediate and meaningful impact on our work, bringing strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative spirit.
This position reports to the Director of Administration. 
About the position
The Office Manager provides essential administrative and operational coordination to the organization, helping ensure that office systems, supplies, communications, and processes run smoothly and effectively. Working closely with the Director of Administration and collaborating across teams, this position supports staff needs, coordinates logistical and administrative activities, and helps maintain an organized and welcoming work environment. This role is well suited for someone who enjoys creating order, solving problems, managing multiple priorities, and supporting colleagues in a mission-driven nonprofit setting.
Specifically, in this job, you will:<ul><li>
Sort and distribute incoming mail once or twice per week.</li><li>
Scan all incoming checks and route them to appropriate staff once or twice per week.</li><li>
Serve as liaison with building management for office needs, conference room reservations and other staff requests.</li><li>
Create tax acknowledgment letters and assist the Development team with other special mailings or projects once or twice per week.</li><li>
Answer the office phone; retrieve and distribute incoming voicemails to staff.</li><li>
Monitor, respond to and route messages received through the organization&rsquo;s general email inbox.</li><li>
Keep the NLP office workspace and files organized.</li><li>
Maintain the office supply, equipment, and swag/collateral inventory.</li><li>
Coordinate the mailing of supplies to staff and NLP swag/collateral to staff, educators, partners, and supporters.</li><li>
Assist in coordinating logistics for conferences that NLP staff attend, including shipping booth materials, collateral, and swag for events.</li><li>
Support staff with procurement needs, including securing travel reservations, making professional development purchases, procuring supplies, etc.</li><li>
Work on special projects and event support as assigned.</li><li>
Assist with accounts payable and administrative finance processes as assigned.</li></ul> 
This part-time position (20 hours per week) is based in Washington, DC. The Office Manager is expected to work in person in the Washington office four days per week, with the opportunity to work remotely one day per week. Once per year the Office Manager is expected to travel for the annual all-staff retreat. About you
This position will support teams that impact many thousands of educators and hundreds of thousands of students in schools across the country, and it plays an important role in achieving our organizational strategy. As the Office Manager, you will partner with the Director of Administration and Chief Operating Officer to ensure staff have the operational support, systems, and resources they need to do their best work in service of NLP&rsquo;s mission. While we do not expect candidates to meet all qualifications, the successful candidate will have all or most of the following:<ul><li>
A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.</li><li>
A minimum of 3 years of experience in office management or administrative support.</li><li>
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and comfort learning new technology systems.</li><li>
Attention to detail, with strong time management and organizational skills.</li><li>
A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset with strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to thrive in a remote, mission-driven work environment.</li><li>
Nonprofit experience is highly desirable.</li><li>
Bookkeeping experience is a plus.</li><li>
Be able to lift 50lbs.</li></ul> 
Compensation and benefits
The salary for this position is $28 to $30/hour, depending on the candidate&rsquo;s qualifications and experience.

Our Hiring Process
Candidates selected to participate will be asked to complete a skills assessment (1-2 hours) and up to two rounds of interviews (1-2 hours total). Interviews are conducted one-on-one and in group settings. Finalists will be asked to provide references.
