<div>Under the supervision of a licensed practitioner, the Medical Assistant will perform non-invasive routine technical supportive services of clinic patient care relating to therapeutic and diagnostic functions, following established policies &amp; procedures, and techniques. The supervising licensed practitioner must be physically present in the treatment facility for the Medical Assistant to perform non-invasive technical supportive services. The Medical Assistant also provides a variety of administrative, assistive &amp; supportive clinical and outreach activities. The Medical Assistant cannot evaluate or synthesize data.
Reports to:
Direct &amp; Administrative: Registered Nurse Supervisor, Program Manager, Clinic Administrator or designee
Technical/Clinical: Licensed Independent Practitioner in consultation with the Director of Nursing Services or designee
Qualifications for Medical Assistant I:
1. High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate is preferred.
2. Completion of a secondary or postsecondary Medical Assistant education program from a public school authorized by the Department of Education, or an approved Medical Assistant program at a postsecondary institution accredited or approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education. 
 
 a. Medical Assistant I - Family Medicine
 For positions assigned to clinical areas of Family Medicine:<ul><li>
Must demonstrate within ninety days of employment, competency in the usage of clinical equipment and Point of Care testing e.g. pregnancy test, urine dip, etc. Have knowledge of instrument sterilization procedures and process.</li></ul>
 b. Medical Assistant I - Women&rsquo;s Health
 For positions assigned to clinical areas of Women&rsquo;s Health Services:<ul><li>
Must demonstrate within ninety days of employment, competency in using clinical equipment, Point of Care testing e.g. pregnancy test, urine dip, etc., and knowledge of instrument sterilization procedures and processes.</li><li>
Must pass the Family Planning Health Worker written and video certification within six months of employment.</li><li>
Possess a minimum of one full year's paid experience in Gynecology and/or Obstetrics services preferred.</li></ul>
Medical Assistant I must meet the following additional requirements: 
 
1. Must maintain a current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification, in compliance with corporate CPR Policy.
2. Displays qualities of dependability and reliability, be willing to accept a variety of tasks, and able to comprehend quickly and follow instructions accurately.
3. Be able to communicate tactfully and empathetically, with cultural sensitivity; with staff, patients, and family members.
4. Write and print legibly.
5. Be well groomed and display mature behavior.
6. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
7. Must be willing and able to work a varied and flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of NEVHC and its patients.
8. Must maintain or exceed Medical Assistant competency levels as established by corporate standards for clinical practice.
9. Must demonstrate through written and oral testing, the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and has knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He or she can identify and categorize each patient's age-specific group needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, adult or geriatric patients.
10. Fluency in English (speaks, read and write).
11. Fluency in Spanish (speaks, translate, read and write) and must complete the mandatory Medical Interpretation course offered at NEVHC.
12. Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality about health care and another patient/client information.
13. Ability to utilize electronic medical records effectively to intake and document patient information and schedule appointments.
14. Current California driver&rsquo;s license, appropriate insurance coverage and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC&rsquo;s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).

Medical Assistant I

The Clinician Informatician (CI), at the direction of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), is a practicing medical provider that serves as the lead clinician for the implementation and optimization of clinical IT applications at NEVHC, such as modules of the electronic health record and electronic registries, and acts as the liaison between clinical staff and the IT department in this regard. This individual will work with IT staff, clinical support staff and physicians to optimize the usage of clinical IT systems through education and training, ongoing technical support, and monitoring of performance. The CI also has primary responsibility for evaluating the needs and requirements for clinical IT applications in ambulatory healthcare settings and participates in the selection of new IT applications that impact clinical care. It is expected that this position will require at least a 20% FTE effort, plus at least 50% FTE effort actively seeing patients at NEVHC.
 
Reports to: Chief Medical Officer
 
To perform effectively in this position, the employee is expected to have:
 
1. Licensed Physician (MD/DO), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or Physician Assistant (PA) with active CA licensure. Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics preferred. Formal training or certification in Clinical Informatics, Health Informatics, or related discipline is desirable.
 
2. Experience implementing, optimizing, and supporting Electronic Health Records (EHRs), clinical decision support systems, and other healthcare technologies. Training or certification in Clinical Informatics, Medical Informatics, Health Informatics, or related field is preferred.
 
3. Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical work experience in the ambulatory care, community health center, federally qualified health center (FQHC), or related healthcare setting.
 
4. Must maintain a current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification, in compliance with corporate CPR policy.
 
5. Competency in mapping real-life clinical practices to informatics applications.
 
6. Change management skills – adept at persuading and training clinical staff to adopt new workflows and tools.
 
7. Strong knowledge of system analysis, workflow planning, gathering business requirements and transforming them into functional specifications.
 
8. Broad knowledge of ambulatory care operations and associated technologies.
 
9. Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and healthcare guides.
 
10. Excellent ability to translate technical terminology for consumption by non-technical audiences.
 
11. Knowledge of adult learning and training methods.
 
12. Good familiarity with project management, quality improvement, and information systems design.
 
13. Able to collaborate and negotiate with vendors and service providers.
 
14. Knowledgeable of current IT security standards, HIPAA and applicable privacy laws, Joint Commission accreditation standards, etc.
 
15. Effective written, oral, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
 
16. Self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
 
17. Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
 
18. Customer-service orientation.
