Job Responsibility

Job Qualification

Ward Clerk (Nursing)

<div>Job Description
Supervises and coordinates medical record functions: acquisition and distribution, chart analysis, discharge coding, correspondence processing, quality audits, etc. Facilitates the even work-flow throughout functional areas.
Job Responsibility:<ul><li>
Promotes Coding department goals by selecting, motivating, and training capable team members.</li><li>
Leads the activities of assigned Coding team members by communicating and providing guidance toward achieving department objectives.</li><li>
Supervises medical record functions to ensure coding of charts is achieved within targets; supervises, hires, trains, disciplines, and evaluates the performance of staff; ensures performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner.</li><li>
Performs new employee orientation including scheduling, training, and submission; plans, organizes, coordinates, and evaluates staffing requirements to meet operational goals; assigns and schedules direct reports to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.</li><li>
Identifies, evaluates, and implements opportunities for efficiencies; generates department metrics; reports operational performance, justification and/or corrective action.</li><li>
Builds and maintains collection of reference tools including codebooks, groupers, encoders and other software applications, coding guidelines, dictionaries and texts for organization staff; collaborates in the selection, implementation, and operation of electronic coding and documentation improvement software; monitors interfaces with billings systems and workflow changes with computer patient information.</li><li>
Ensures integrity of encoder and abstracting systems by maintenance and revision of data; reviews daily operations backlogs and computer problems; makes recommendations and takes corrective action; collaborates with Education and Training to identify training needs and schedule training activities, including transition.</li><li>
Collaborates with offices and operations; reduces and eliminates account holds.</li><li>
Researches, reviews, and evaluates &ldquo;Best Practices&rdquo; for implementation throughout organization; ensures collaboration and communication.</li><li>
Reviews and monitors organization contract services, and ensures system-wide and vendor compliance; reports on issues and makes recommendations for corrective actions; reviews and approves vendor billing information.</li><li>
Audits patient logs, reports, and follows up on inconsistency or accuracy of medical records; ensures inventory of supplies.</li><li>

Job Qualification
<ul><li>Associate's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.</li><li>

Supervisor, Coding

<div>Description
Part-Time: 20 hours per week. Sun, Mon, Tues, Fri, and Sat 5:00pm-9:00pm. Includes 1 summer and 1 winter holiday.

Summary:
Facilitates patient flow through the system from scheduling through registration check in so that patients have a &quot;one touch&quot; registration/scheduling experience. Responsible for obtaining demographic and financial information to ensure accurate patient identification and identify and secure appropriate payment sources. Performs registration functions, insurance eligibility verification, patient liability collection, scheduling and admitting duties. Provides estimates for services when appropriate. Receives and processes patient financial liability payments. Working hours may include weekends, evenings, overnights and holidays.
Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for greeting patients and / or physicians, staff, co-workers and guests promptly and in a professional manner. Checks patients into the system and provides direction based on appointment location, financial clearance and counseling status. Acknowledges and assists patients with special needs and respects confidentiality. 2. Responds to telephone calls according to established customer service standards. Provides requested information to callers. When assigned to scheduling, contributes to reduction of abandoned call rate, length of calls, and average speed answered through use of best practices and workflow improvements. 3. Performs accurate search / selection of patient within the hospital system using the Patient Identification procedure to maintain the integrity of the Electronic Master Patient Indes (EMPI) and to ensure the accuracy of patient identification. 4. Accurately establishes and schedules appointments for services from patients directly or physician's offices following the designated protocols of the scheduling systems and clinical EMRs. May initiate contact to patients to obtain additional information or confirm scheduled appointments. 5. Performs registration functions in the system and enters accurate and complete demographic and financial information to aid in securing payment for services rendered. 6. Performs insurance eligibility verification and executes payor requirements as needed. Includes initiating eligibility transactions via the internet, contacting the payor to obtain billing information and authorization and scripts for service when appropriate. 7. Provides estimates for services when appropriate, communicates and actively solicits patient liability. 8. Enters testing orders in the appropriate system when necessary. Requires an understanding of coding, procedural protocols, and the charge description master. 9. Employee responsible to obtain signatures for all required organization, state and federal consents and / or notifications. 10. Responsible for remaining compliant, current, and knowledgeable with Department Policies and Procedures. 11. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position including HIPAA, EMTALA and Patient Bill of Rights. 12. Performs other duties as assigned.
Other Information:
Education: Required HS Diploma with minimum of 2 years job related experience. Associate degree with 6 months job-related experience - Preferred. Other Information: Minimum Experience of 1 year preferred in a job-related experience. Basic MS Word &amp; MS Excel. Customer Service and organizational skills. Criteria Desired: National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) certification within one year of hire.

Patient Access Liaison I - Part Time

<div>Job Description
Performs patient care under the physician's/nurse's direct supervision. Duties include preparing patient for physician, administering, obtaining and recording diagnostic laboratory test results. Assists in coordinating organization of care to meet patient needs including preparing, organizing and filing reports into the medical record.

Job Responsibility

<div><ul><li>Collaborates with members of the health care team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care; may record reason for visit and related patient information for practitioner review.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Performs vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures which may include head circumference, audiometry, and vision testing; documents findings in the medical record.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Collects and assists providers in collection of specimens, as required, using appropriate protocols such as infection control; completes requisitions, labels and routes specimens according to standard procedure.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Performs and documents daily controls and calibration of laboratory equipment when needed; informs the supervisor of when inaccurate controls are noted.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Performs electrocardiograms and phlebotomy in accordance with provider orders; adheres to infection control standards including, but not limited to, hand hygiene, use of PPE, isolation of patient with known infectious disease, and equipment disinfection/sterilization.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Assists physicians and nurses with special procedures and examinations including, but not limited to lumbar puncture, pelvic exam, etc. following appropriate protocols such as infection control, universal protocol, and patient identification; secures supplies, ensures patient is properly undressed and draped, provides instruments to physicians, holds patient, as required and assists patient after procedure/examination.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stocks assigned rooms and cupboards and ensures par levels of supplies are maintained; checks and completes required logs and equipment including refrigerator logs, eyewash logs, sample medications, AED, suction and other required checks.</li></ul>
<ul><li>May participate in pre-visit chart preparation by ensuring required lab results and documentation are available in the medical record for practitioner review (for practices using paper medical records).</li></ul>
<ul><li>Performs variety of other clerical functions such as filing of paper medical records, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, photocopying, answering phones, and assuring efficient flow of patients through the suite, etc. Performs related duties as required.</li></ul>
