GENERAL DESCRIPTION</b><br>
Work involves civil human trafficking litigation; planning, coordinating and otherwise managing all stages of civil litigation including, but not limited to drafting pleadings, drafting letters, pretrial motion practice, propounding and responding to discovery, participating in depositions, hearings, meetings for landlord engagement and trials in state court; providing civil legal advice, counsel, and assistance; and conducting legal research into novel issues. Applicant will work closely with civil and criminal prosecutors and investigators and will work on cases throughout Texas.</p><p><br>

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS</b></p><ul><li>
Candidate must be highly motivated and able to bring the resources needed to introduce and prosecute civil cases related to human trafficking on behalf of the state of Texas.</li><li>
Handles all phases of civil litigation from investigation through resolution.</li><li>
Analyzes complex factual and legal issues; and develops evidence through witness interviews, civil investigative demand responses, subpoenas, depositions, or other discovery.</li><li>
Performs legal research and reports findings and conclusions; drafts the preparation of legal opinions, briefs, pleadings, and other legal documents.</li><li>
Provides legal advice counsel and assistance to local prosecutors and law enforcement entities.</li><li>
Reviews and provides input on proposed bills related to human trafficking.</li><li>
Performs related work as assigned.</li><li>
Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.</li><li>
Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule.</li><li>
Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.</li><li>
Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.</li></ul><div>

Qualifications</b><div></div><p><b><br>
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</b></p><ul><li>
Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree (J.D.)</li><li>
Experience: Experience working in the following (or closely related) fields as a licensed attorney: Civil Litigation</li><li>
Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas</li><li>
Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and eligible to practice law in Texas by start date.</li><li>
Knowledge of law and legal principles and practices relevant to civil law</li><li>
Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines</li><li>
Skill in effective oral and written communication (writing sample required at time of interview, if selected)</li><li>
Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making</li><li>
Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback</li><li>
Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment</li><li>
Ability to provide excellent customer service</li><li>
Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)</li><li>
Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel</li><li>
Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA</li><li>
Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.</li><li>

Experience: At least 1 year of civil litigation experience</li><li>

<p>
The OAG&rsquo;s Antitrust Division is seeking to hire an experienced, self-driven attorney capable of thriving in a collaborative work environment and independently overseeing cases with complex legal and factual issues. The Antitrust Division is charged with investigating and prosecuting violations of the Texas Free Enterprise and Antitrust Act and federal antitrust statutes. The Division&rsquo;s caseload consists of highly complex and high-profile investigations and litigation which may involve antitrust violations such as monopolization, conspiracies among competitors, or anticompetitive mergers. Matters investigated or litigated can be local, regional, or national in scope and may be coordinated with other state attorneys general, the Federal Trade Commission, or the U.S. Department of Justice. Licensed attorneys with a demonstrable interest and/or experience in antitrust enforcement or litigation are encouraged to apply.</p>

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS</b></p>

Assistant Attorney General I:</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Conducts entry level to complex antitrust and related litigation in both state and federal courts</li>
<li>Initiates and conducts antitrust and related law investigations, including directing investigator and economist activity</li>
<li>Provides antitrust and related information to state and local governments</li>
<li>Performs all phases of civil litigation of antitrust cases including the drafting of petitions, motions, pleadings, orders, briefs, discovery, and memorandum</li>
<li>Performs or directs legal research and report findings and conclusions</li>
<li>Assists in or coordinates others in preparing cases for trial</li>
<li>Provides antitrust and related information to state and local governments</li>
<li>Represents the Office of the Attorney General before state or federal district and appellate courts</li>
<li>Prepares or coordinates the preparation of legal briefs, pleadings, and other legal documents</li>
<li>Provides legal advice, counsel and assistance to client state agencies, local prosecutors or law enforcement entities</li>
<li>Communicates with representatives of state agencies and consumers</li>
<li>Analyzes entry level to moderately complex factual and legal issues and develops evidence for filing of antitrust cases</li>
<li>Performs related work as assigned</li>
<li>Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions</li>

<li>Experience: One year of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: antitrust, complex civil litigation, commercial litigation</li>

<p><b>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience: Antitrust matters or other document-intensive complex civil litigation</li>
<li>Knowledge: Laws and legal principles and practices relevant to Texas and federal antitrust and trade regulations statutes</li>
<li>Abilities: Provide expertise in specific and relevant areas of law to Executive Administration, division management, and division attorneys; handles or directs high-profile and/or complex litigation affecting the Antitrust Division; and serves as a mentor to division attorneys</li></ul></div></div>
