General Description:
 
Under the supervision of the Respiratory Supervisor, The Respiratory Therapist provides all therapeutic respiratory care procedures utilizing a multidisciplinary process in an acute or critical care environment. Demonstrates a strong knowledge and understanding of the disease process with all procedures performed. Performs assessment and reassessment of the patient with the development of the care plan. 
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
<ul><li>Performs all therapeutic, acute, or critical respiratory therapy procedures based on established standards. Evaluates effectiveness and makes recommendations for change. Demonstrates competency in all procedures within the scope of practice, as appropriate for all ages of patients served.
</li><li>Competent in performing and teaching others in all critical care procedures and protocols, including: intubation, ventilator management, disaster/emergency equipment use, arterial and pulmonary artery line set up, arterial puncture and analysis, and weaning from mechanical ventilation to extubating.</li>
<li>Competent to apply skills to use, teach others, and troubleshoot problems with specific types of cardiopulmonary equipment, including: mechanical ventilator, disaster/emergency equipment use, blood gas analyzer, CPAP/BiPAP, pulse oximeter, hemodynamic monitor, ECG, ETCO2 monitor. Cleans and assembles equipment and ensures it as ready for patient use. Maintains and evaluates equipment items. Submits work orders as appropriate.</li>
<li>Participates in the formation of a patient care plan through assessment and reassessment activities regarding Respiratory Care. Provides professional advice to expedite patient treatment. Collaborates with other health team members to formulate agreeable healthcare goals with the patient and /or family.</li>
<li> Completes all work by the end of the shift, including documentation, reports, equipment processing, shift report preparation, and other related duties to ensure proper continuum of care. Assists with maintaining a neat and orderly work area.</li>
<li>Competent in the performance of all bedside ECG testing. Recognizes arrhythmias and communicates findings, as appropriate. Proficient with processing the reports. Responds as a member of the Code Blue team.</li>
<li>Assists with completion of all log sheets and daily checks as appropriate. Evaluates and assists with maintaining inventory items.
</li><li>Submits process improvement opportunities and may participate in process improvement projects.</li>
<li>Performs similar or related duties as assigned.</li>
<li>Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area</li>
</ul>Requirements: 
 
Formal Education: 
<ul>
<li>Associate's Degree or other Two Year College equivalent required.</li>
<li>AMA Approved Respiratory Therapy Program preferred</li>
</ul>Work Experience:

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations: 
<ul>
<li>State of Florida Certification (TT) or Registration (RT) required upon hire.</li>
<li>BCLS, ACLS through The American Heart Association required upon hire.</li>
<li>PALS through The American Heart Association (AHA) highly preferred upon hire; required within clinical orientation period.</li>
<li>NRP through The American Heart Association (AHA) or American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is highly preferred upon hire; required within 90 days of hire.</li></ul></div>

General Description:
 
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director/Director/Clinical Coordinator, the RN is responsible for the provision of nursing care as appropriate to population served. The RN, through team nursing and the multidisciplinary team, assesses, plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates the plan of care. The RN monitors the plan of care to ensure quality, appropriateness, timeliness, and effectiveness of the care rendered. The RN, utilizing the Person- and Family- Centered Care Model, recognizes and addresses family needs and preferences, and integrates family caregivers as partners in care demonstrating mutual trust and respect. 
 
Key Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Perform physical and psychosocial assessment including growth and development of the patient. Record and analyze patient medical history, symptoms, and conditions. Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions. Perform indicated re-assessment within defined timeframes.
</li><li>Administer medications, infusion therapy and treatments utilizing bar code scanning and evidence-based safety procedure.</li>
<li>Team leading and coordination of care: Initiates the care plan and plans daily care with the team, patient and family. Coordinates care with the multidisciplinary team members to meet patient's educational and discharge planning needs. Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
</li><li>Appropriately coordinates, delegates, and supervises duties of other health care personnel, such as Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants, Nurse Technicians, and Patient Safety Advocates.
</li><li>Utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, implements direct patient care and treatments, as demonstrated by follow through and use of appropriate intervention.
</li><li>Evaluate the effectiveness of planned interventions in relation to patient responses and the attainment of expected outcomes. Document and communicate actions to maintain continuity among the nursing team.</li>
<li>Communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, patients, families, and other health care team members. Completes hourly rounding, includes the person/family to actively participate in face-to-face bedside handoff/handover report; communicates in SBAR format for all handoff/handover reports and changes in patient's status to the Care Provider/physician, Clinical Coordinator or Charge Nurse. Follows the chain of command.</li>
<li>Documents in a concise, pertinent, and legible manner, on the appropriate form and according to accepted standards. Nursing care is provided in an organized, timely, safe, cost effective manner.</li>
<li>Assesses the patient's health literacy level. Plans, implements and evaluates effectiveness of patient education. Instruct patients and families on topics such as health education, disease prevention, and develops individualized health improvement programs helping patients make informed decisions about their health and treatment. Promotes patients' independence by establishing patient care goals and teaching patients and families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills.</li>
<li>Participates in Quality Monitoring/Performance Improvement. Incorporates Evidence Based practices into daily care.</li>

Requirements: 
 
Formal Education:
<ul><li>Graduate of an RN education program (accredited preferred); Associate Degree in Nursing required.</li>
<li>Bachelor Degree in Nursing preferred</li>
</ul>
