As an Underwriting Analyst, you will evaluate and assess health risk for employer groups and individuals, applying medical knowledge and financial analysis to determine eligibility, pricing, and coverage terms. This role requires strong analytical skills, deep understanding of medical terminology, and proficiency in risk modeling for level-funded health plans. You will collaborate closely with Sales, Actuarial, and other internal teams to ensure accurate, timely, and competitive underwriting decisions.</p></div><p></p><div><p><b><br>

Responsibilities:

Risk Assessment &amp; Pricing</b></p></div><div><ul><li>
Review insurance applications and apply medical terminology to analyze risk exposure.
</li><li>Quantify risks for level-funded products and calculate quotes and renewal rates using rating formulas, tools, and methodologies; validate accuracy of final rates and packaging.
</li><li>Apply sound underwriting judgment to maintain a profitable book of business while ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations.</li></ul></div><div><p><b>
Data Analysis &amp; Reporting</b></p></div><div><ul><li>
Perform underwriting financial analysis, proposal generation, and ad hoc analytics for new and renewing groups.
</li><li>Interpret benefit plan designs and assess impact on pricing.
</li><li>Compile and analyze data to identify trends and patterns in risk and claims; prepare detailed reports for senior leadership.</li><li>
Explain rate changes and underwriting decisions to internal and external stakeholders.</li></ul></div><div><p><b>
Collaboration &amp; Communication</b></p></div></div><div><div><ul><li>
Act as a subject matter expert in underwriting across cross-functional initiatives.
</li><li>Partner with Sales, Legal, and Claims to gather necessary information and ensure accurate risk assessment.
</li><li>Communicate decisions clearly to brokers, clients, and internal teams; maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.</li></ul></div><div><p>
 <b>Process Improvement &amp; Strategic Insight</b></p></div><div><ul><li>
Identify opportunities to improve underwriting processes and tools; implement enhancements.
</li><li>Participate in training and development programs to stay current on industry trends and regulatory changes.</li></ul></div></div>
Qualifications:
<div><div><ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or related field preferred, equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of education
</li><li>2+ years in medical underwriting or related field with financial analysis and risk modeling experience.
</li><li>Level-funded or self-funded health insurance experience strongly preferred.
</li><li>Strong understanding of medical terminology and common health conditions.
</li><li>Proficiency in underwriting software, rating engines, and Microsoft Excel; predictive modeling experience a plus.
</li><li>Excellent analytical, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
</li><li>Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate results under deadlines.
</li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client and internal interactions.</li></ul></div><div><p>
Hardware and equipment will be provided by the company, but candidates must have access to high-speed, non-satellite Internet to successfully work from home.</p></div></div><p></p><div><p><br>
