Position: Teacher Assistant (Paraprofessional) - Temporary Position 
Location: Garfield STEAM Academy (Elementary)
 701 N. Roosevelt
 Sand Springs, Ok 74063 
Supervisor: Site Principal Russell Ragland 
Reports to: Assigned Teacher, Building Principal 
Contractual Hours: 7 hours daily 
Supervises: N/A 
Classification: Exempt 
Qualifications:
48 Hours College Credit OR Passing Score on Paraprofessional Test, High School Diploma or Equivalent Completion of Paraprofessional Training Required by the OSDE CPI Certificate, CPR and First Aid Certificate, Obtain a Tiered Certification Certificate as specified by the OSDE. Pass the National Criminal History Check qualifications with the OSDE/OSBI. 
Have a high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) diploma, PLUS:<ul><li>
Option A: 
Hold an associate&rsquo;s degree (or higher) 
OR</li><li>
Option B: 
Complete at least two years (48 credit hours) of study at an institution of higher education. 
OR</li><li>
Option C: 
Pass the Oklahoma General Education (OGET) Test. (See Office of Educational Quality and Accountability for testing.) 
OR</li><li>
Option D: 
Pass the Praxis ParaProfessional Assessment Test (Passing score is 455)</li><li>
Pass an Oklahoma Criminal Background Check</li><li><ul><li>
Application for Oklahoma Title I Paraprofessional Credential</li><li>
$10 processing fee (check, cashier&rsquo;s check, or money order) made payable to the Oklahoma State Department of Education (will be required if hired for this position)</li></ul></li></ul> 
Job Goal:
Provides adult support to small groups of students or one-on-one with an individual student to assist the student in unique educational goals. 
Evaluation: Annually by Supervising Teacher and Site Principal

Regular Requirements:
Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above the shoulder, and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students; lift/move up to 50 pounds. 
Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 100 pounds 
Visual Requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus 
Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Note - these duties vary based on the individual student's needs and individualized education plans.
Typical duties may include:<ul><li>Monitors students on district-provided transportation and assists students in getting on or off buses and vans.</li><li>Accompanies students during meals and assists students with getting and eating meals and cleaning up after meals.</li><li>Accompanies students to classes or therapy services, monitors behavior (intervening as needed), and assists with classwork.</li><li>Assists students with motor, balance, social, and life skills.</li><li>Possibly assists students with personal care, including dressing, toileting, and diapering.</li><li>Monitors students during nap times.</li><li>Cleans and maintains an efficient work area.</li><li>Assists with instruction, errands, and copies related to the assigned student(s).</li><li>Attends IEP and other meetings and training as requested.</li><li>Alerts the assigned teacher of concerns related to the student.</li><li>Maintains confidentiality of student information.</li><li>Complies with all federal, state, and local laws and board policies and procedures.</li><li>Utilizes professional behavior in all school-related interactions.</li><li>Assists the teacher in monitoring students&rsquo; progress toward academic and behavioral IEP goals.</li><li>Reinforces learning in small groups or with an individual student while the teacher works with other students.</li><li>Assists the teacher in observing, recording, and charting behavior.</li><li>Assists the teacher with crisis problems and behavior management.</li><li>Provides one-on-one tutoring if it is scheduled at a time when a student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher.</li><li>Scores objective tests and papers and maintains appropriate records for teachers.</li><li>Carries out instructional programs designed by the teacher.</li><li>Works with the teacher to develop classroom schedules.</li><li>Operates and maintains classroom equipment.</li><li>Takes over a class for a short period of time.</li><li>Supervises children in the hallway, lunchroom, and playground.</li><li>Performs all other tasks as the supervisor may assign.</li><li>Assists students with toileting needs or changing.</li><li>Implements and enforces behavior intervention plans for individual students.</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>
