 The State of Vermont is looking for experienced Registered Nurses to take their careers to the next level and hope that the Department of Disabilities, Aging, and Independent Living (DAIL) - Division of Licensing and Protection (DLP) is that place. We are hiring nurses who will work as surveyors to ensure that our healthcare facilities are following the rules and regulations set forth by the State of Vermont and Federal Government (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid - CMS). The facilities/providers we cover include Residential Care Homes (RCH), Assisted Living Residences (ALR), Therapeutic Community Centers (TCR), Nursing Homes, Acute Care Hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, Psychiatric Hospitals, End Stage Renal Dialysis Centers, Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Rural Health Clinics, Home Health, and Hospice Agencies.

 <br/>
 Registered nurses from different career areas have the potential to bring different perspectives to our teams. Members of our team have various backgrounds, and have come from hospitals, home health, long term care, public health, health care administration and backgrounds including multiple provider types.
 <br/>
 <br/>
 Although this is a home-based job, it requires a significant amount of travel throughout the state of Vermont so you must be able to spend nights in a hotel several times a week/month. The work week is typically three days out in the field with the fourth day spent working in your home office. There will be occasional off-hours work expected, on evenings and weekends, and you must also have your own reliable means of transportation.

 By using your knowledge, objectivity, professionalism and commitment, the Nurse Surveyor is expected to:
 <br/>
 <br/>
 <ul>
  <li>
   Assess the quality of care and services of health care facilities/providers via onsite observations, interviews and record reviews. Identify any deficient practices and relate those findings to federal and state statutory and regulatory requirements.
  </li>
  <li>
   Collaborate with other surveyors to evaluate compliance in providing quality care, quality of life, and otherregulatory requirements. Each team member participates in evaluating a heath care facility/provider's compliance in providing quality care, quality of life and other structural requirements.
  </li>
  <li>
   Write deficiency statements according to the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare (CMS) "Principles of Documentation".
  </li>
  <li>
   Complete reports and summaries according to guidelines and timelines set forth by CMS and the state.
  </li>
  <li>
   Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing computer programs and applications.

 </ul>
 Within this role, there is an opportunity to work primarily surveying the state facilities and/or work primarily surveying the federal facilities.

 Within six to twelve months of hire, the successful candidate, who works primarily surveying federal facilities, will be required to pass a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Federal Qualification Test (SMQT).

 Duties are performed in both field and office settings. Considerable travel to facility locations is required. Evening and weekend work is required. Overnight stays in a hotel are an expected requirement on a monthly basis. Resistance or objection to standards or to survey findings may be anticipated and requires considerable tact and diplomacy to achieve appropriate resolution. Survey deadlines, exit conferences, and interviewing may occasion considerable stress.

 Possession of, or eligibility for, licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Vermont OR eligible to practice in the state of Vermont via a multi-state license AND four (4) years or more of professional nursing experience

 NOTE: Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) certification is required within one year of hire.
