The Workers&rsquo; Compensation Senior Claim Representative is accountable for planning, recommending, and executing the investigation of workers&rsquo; compensation claims. Our dynamic team of claim professionals provide superb customer service with the valuation, disposition and settlement of worker compensation claims while consistently adhering to our corporate claim settlement policies. Additionally, the representatives will work within established procedures in adherence to statutory, regulatory and ethical requirements.
Work Arrangement: This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work schedule. Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, Lake Mary, FL, San Antonio, TX, Naperville, IL or Scottsdale, AZ) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work schedule, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.

Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Effectively manage workers&rsquo; compensation claims requiring timely investigations and financial accuracy</li><li>
Provide benefit oversight, appropriate file disposition and adherence to statutory guidelines for all claims</li><li>
Leverage a network of professional resources that may include: doctors, nurses, attorney and regulators to facilitate our mission of restoring the lives of our claimants</li><li>
Provide exceptional customer service by establishing and maintaining productive business relationships with customers</li><li>
Utilize critical thinking skills to gather and analyze data information to inform critical claim decisions</li><li>
Provide accurate mathematical calculations of disability benefit rates and claim financial exposures</li><li>
Leverage contemporary technology to achieve accurate and efficient claim outcomes</li><li>

Qualifications:<ul><li>
Minimum of 2+ years of experience in workers' compensation claim handling required</li><li>
Certification exams and adjusting licenses as required by state</li><li>
Outstanding interpersonal skills</li><li>

Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills</li><li>
Demonstrated consistent high level of performance and achievement over career span</li><li>

Additional Details:<ul><li>
As a condition of your employment, you must obtain and maintain a State Adjuster's License to process Property &amp; Casualty Insurance. Continued employment with The Hartford is contingent upon the successful passage of the Licensing exam within 1 year from your date of hire.</li></ul>

Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford&rsquo;s total compensation package for employees. This is a visible and important role within the Hartford Global Specialty (HGS) Claims Division. As a Claim Consultant, you will be responsible for handling a caseload of general liability bodily injury and property damage claims from inception to final disposition. These claims will involve both primary and excess coverages and often involve complex fact patterns requiring analysis of contracts between parties to determine indemnity and contribution obligations and risk transfer opportunities.<div><div><div><div>
Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to:<ul><li>
Conducting investigations and analyzing and evaluating the information learned</li><li>
Making coverage determinations and communicating written position(s) to insureds and other required parties</li><li>
Within prescribed authority levels, setting appropriate expense and indemnity reserves and monitoring on a regular basis for any needed adjustment</li><li>
Presenting cases to management for expense and indemnity reserve authority above established authority levels</li><li>
Developing and implementing resolution strategies to achieve high quality outcomes</li><li>
Proactively managing litigation and counsel, inclusive of litigation planning and execution, budgeting and bill review</li><li>
Attending trials and mediations as necessary</li><li>
Contributing to broader claim and enterprise goals by participating in audits, projects and product development initiatives</li><li>
Preparing comprehensive reports and delivering presentations to senior claim leadership on case developments, policy issues, industry trends, etc.</li><li>
Working with business partners to evaluate and address claim trends and developments</li><li>
Addressing inquiries from agents and policyholders and providing superior customer service</li></ul>
Requirements:<ul><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree preferred; law degree a plus</li><li>
Minimum of five years handling General Liability litigated coverage and liability matters</li><li>
High level of discipline; results-oriented; and able to focus on bottom line results</li><li>

This position can be filled at either the Consultant or Specialist level, based on the candidate&rsquo;s experience.
The Claim Specialist and Claim Consultant roles are advanced claim handler positions within the ENVIRONMENTAL unit of The Hartford&rsquo;s Complex Claims Unit (CCU), responsible for the management of various complex claims brought against The Hartford&rsquo;s insureds. Claims in CCU are often associated with complex fact patterns and coverage issues that may involve multiple years and types of insurance coverage. CCU claims also commonly involve litigation, require subject matter expertise and can involve higher exposures.
The Environmental Claim Specialist or Claim Consultant roles within CCU offer a high-impact opportunity for professionals to engage their problem-solving capabilities and navigate complex legal issues. This position focuses on managing legacy environmental and pollution claims, often involving historical contamination, chemical exposure, and long-tail liability, requiring detailed investigation, legal analysis, and strategic resolution. As part of a specialized team, you'll influence litigation strategies, manage significant financial exposures, and become a subject matter expert in environmental liability and insurance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position may be filled at either the Consultant or Specialist level, commensurate with a candidate&rsquo;s experience:
Claims Specialist ($107,600 - $161,400)
At the Claim Specialist level, the candidate must be able to independently and timely manage all aspects of the most complex, high-value claims while exhibiting a detailed knowledge of the claim, a well-reasoned analytical focus and a clear strategy for resolution. Experience with environmental or other latent injury claims or claims under affirmative pollution coverages.
Claims Consultant ($84,800 - $127,200) 
The Claim Consultant would handle claims of similar complexity, but with additional managerial oversight and coaching. Experience with commercial general liability claims.
At both levels, the candidate must share their expertise and contribute to broader claim goals by participating in audits, projects and training initiatives. Other responsibilities include:<ul><li>
Provide proactive communications to customers and business partners in the management and resolution of claims;</li><li>
Respond to inquiries from customers and provide superior customer service;</li><li>
Review and analyze multiple complex policies and coverage parts (including general liability, umbrella/excess liability and affirmative pollution coverages);
</li><li>Write and articulate clear, concise and accurate coverage positions;</li><li>
Conduct investigations regarding claims and/or lawsuits;</li><li>
Effectively manage litigation and counsel, inclusive of litigation planning/budgeting, and proactively position claims for resolution;</li><li>
Develop and persuasively articulate complex coverage, liability and damage assessments;</li><li>
Provide detailed impactful recommendations to leadership;</li><li>
Pursue and finalize coverage and liability risk transfer against other liable parties and insurance carriers;</li><li>
Conduct complex negotiations and articulate coverage/liability positions;</li><li>
Attend mediations and trials as necessary;</li><li>
Proactively manage accurate expense, reserve and financial transactions;</li><li>
Consistently maintain up-to-date claims metrics.</li></ul>
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:<ul><li>
5+ years general liability claim handling experience;<ul><li>
Consultant: Experience with commercial general liability claims;
</li><li>Specialist: Experience with environmental or other latent injury claims or claims under affirmative pollution coverages;
</li></ul></li><li>Experience in handling affirmative/defensive risk transfer; including additional insured tenders;</li><li>
Strong to Excellent verbal and written communication skills;</li><li>
Strong to Excellent analytical and critical thinking ability;</li><li>
Ability to present in a roundtable setting with a well-reasoned and analytical evaluation;</li><li>
Superior customer service skills and active listening skills;</li><li>
Proven track record of prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities;</li><li>
Proven track record of effective negotiations/settlement of high-value general liability claims;</li><li>
Demonstrated negotiation and conflict resolution skills;</li><li>
Proficiency with MS Office, especially Word and Excel;</li><li>
Proficiency handling litigated claims;</li><li>
Active Property &amp; Casualty State Insurance Adjuster license or ability to obtain licensing within 3 months of hire.</li></ul>
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:<ul><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree strongly preferred</li><li>
10+ years long-tail claim handling experience.</li><li>
JD, other advanced degree, or experience in an environmental consulting discipline (such as geology, hydrology, ecology, or environmental engineering) a plus.
