Job Summary</b></h2><p>
A Research Technician position is available in the Department of Neurosurgery and the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at the University of Michigan Medical School. The goal of our research program is to elucidate the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in brain tumor formation, and the role of specific signaling pathways and stem cells in tumor progression and resistance to therapies. The project also involves cancer cell genome-editing technologies, epigenetics, whole cancer genome sequencing, bioinformatics analysis and DNA repair mechanisms. This project has a strong translational component to develop and implement novel therapeutic strategies in human clinical trials for brain cancer.</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Responsibilities*</b></h2><p>
</p><p>The Research Technician will perform complex experimental procedures in one or more areas of work under the supervision of the Principal Investigators and/or higher-level research staff. They will also be required to perform complex statistical calculations and data analysis, prepare PowerPoint presentations and figures for manuscripts, perform library research on specified topics and prepare bibliographies, assist with manuscript and grant proposals preparation. Healthcare organizations must have a health record that is created and maintained to meet the requirements of a legal business record. It must be maintained in a manner consistent with state and federal requirements. HIM professionals are charged with reconciling health records, as well as certifying them as accurate and complete. Proper management of corrections made within the health record is imperative to maintaining the best quality and integrity of information possible for patient safety purposes.</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Responsibilities*</b></h2><p>
The Data Integrity Specialist works at the center of the chart correction process. Coordinate the parties and interdisciplinary teams involved in each case (i.e., finance, clinical departments, and Pharmacy) and is responsible for ensuring all necessary corrections are made in a timely manner and each case is validated prior to closure to ensure that documentation is complete and accurate to support patient safety and continuity of care. The Data Integrity Specialist is also responsible for being available to respond to urgent corrections 24 hours a day/7 days a week.</p><p>
Provide assistance and guidance regarding documentation needs and requirements in accordance with compliance guidelines, Joint Commission, CMS and other regulatory requirements. Possess an in depth knowledge of how to provide customers of MiChart with proper information when they are experiencing problems and to perform chart corrections.</p><p>
Communicate with clinicians, health care providers, and Information Technology personnel critical and complex information on how to report and correct health record documentation, often in an urgent timeframe. Provide customer service to UMHS staff to ensure that incorrect data is identified, charting errors are communicated to the parties identified in the chart correction policy, erroneous data is corrected, and is verified that the clinical information was updated completely and correctly. Document outcomes of the chart correction process according to organization's policies. Make independent decisions on how best to address critical registration and documentation errors impacting patient safety and direct clinicians and ancillary and clinical departments on the necessary actions that must be taken to mitigate.</p><p>
Provide comprehensive management reporting of assigned HIM unit metrics supporting process control and continuous improvement to executive leaders, HIM leadership, and HIM staff. Extract data from systems, create and maintain a database of reporting information, construct queries, compile and analyze data, create regular and ad hoc reports for presentation to executives, departmental leadership, and HIM and MCIT staff. Responsibilities*</b></h2><p>
The main duties of the candidate will be implementation of laboratory experiments and collection of data. The laboratory studies human adrenal disorders and is part of the internationally renowned Michigan Adrenal Group. The laboratory relies heavily on liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) utilization. Laboratory techniques used include serum sample extraction for LC-MS/MS analysis, PCR, mRNA and DNA isolation, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, cell culture, tissue microdissection, luciferase-mediated bioluminescence assays etc.<br>
Additional responsibilities: maintain laboratory documentation for experimental analysis, condition and cleanliness of the lab, and instrument maintenance, help in ordering laboratory equipment and supplies and keeping the laboratory stocked at all times; present data at lab meetings; assist in the procurement, storage, maintenance of laboratory compliance with university regulatory agencies and documentation of data and tissues.</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Required Qualifications*</b></h2><p>
Bachelor's or Master?s Degree in Biology, Chemistry or closely related field plus previous experience in a research laboratory in a related field. Serve as an essential member of the Cancer Center Maize Team. Selected individual will be responsible for coordinating patient services assistances schedules, back up for clerical staff, covering all positions as need, managing requests for time off, and ensuring adequate coverage for the centralized check in and check out teams. Support complex infusion templates, procedure templates, provider templates, MiChart admin inbasket, provide as needed faculty administrative support, train staff, and promote practices for patient centered excellence. Ensure that patients with urgent needs are scheduled appropriately, and monitor patient flow, and patient wait times to optimize patient care experiences. Serve as a point of contact for complicated issues and patient concerns.</p><p>
Selected candidate will work as a functional supervisor and will lead daily huddles and embrace and incorporate lean in daily work concepts.</p><p>
Provide exceptional customer service to patients by facilitating business processes that include check in and check out services to primary and specialty care departments, coordinating support and ancillary services for patients, appointment scheduling, processing all patient payments (co-pays and outstanding balances). Respond to inquiries concerning department programs, services, and activities.</p><p>
