Department Summary</b></h4>
<p>
University Communications drives the University of Oregon&rsquo;s strategic goals through the development and implementation of comprehensive communications and marketing programs. The division manages media relations, digital communications, social media, creative design, writing, editing, strategic communications, licensing, and marketing strategy. It collaborates with departments across campus to tell the UO&rsquo;s key stories, enhance its reputation, and support initiatives that showcase academic and research excellence while promoting student success.</p>
<h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Position Summary</b></h4>
<p>
The Communications Generalist works as part of a team of designers to design high-quality marketing, branding, and communications materials for the university. This work includes designing for digital, social, web, video, print, and environmental. The Communications Generalist will serve as a brand ambassador, working closely with the UO Communications teams and colleagues.</p>
<h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Minimum Requirements</b></h4>
<p>
Three years of experience as a public relations representative<br>
for an organization which involved gathering information, writing and/or producing materials, presenting information<br>
to the public, handling public relations, preparing press releases, and interaction with the news media. At least<br>
one year of this experience must have involved participating in planning and administering an organization's public<br>
relations program.<br>
A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a closely-related<br>
field may substitute for up to two years of the general experience but will not substitute for the one year of<br>
specialized experience.</p>
<h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Professional Competencies</b></h4>
<ul><li>Full knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, and proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. CSS and HTML skills are also desired.</li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel.</li><li>Creative skills, such as Illustration, motion graphics, and web design.</li><li>Ability to use a project management system.</li><li>Ability to take creative feedback, execute, and iterate quickly and efficiently.</li><li>Commitment to and experience with promoting and enhancing diversity and equity.</li><li>Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to meet independent and team deadlines within defined budgets.</li><li>Strong attention to detail.</li></ul>
<h4 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Preferred Qualifications</b></h4>
<ul><li>Advanced appreciation for the difference between digital and print communications related to content delivery, artwork preparation, production, and graphic design considerations.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate as part of a cross-functional team.</li><li>Experience working on quick-turn projects.</li><li>Experience working independently with budget restrictions.</li></ul>
