Key responsibilities

  • Manage, configure and operate production PostgreSQL instances (on‑prem and cloud; e.g., AWS RDS/Aurora)
  • Design, implement and maintain backup, restore and disaster‑recovery strategies; perform point‑in‑time restores and test DR runbooks
  • Monitor database health and capacity; troubleshoot and resolve performance, storage and replication issues
  • Perform query profiling, indexing, vacuuming/autovacuum tuning and parameter optimization to improve throughput and latency
  • Plan and execute schema changes, major version upgrades and migrations with minimal downtime
  • Implement and maintain high‑availability and replication solutions (streaming replication, logical replication, failover automation)
  • Build automation for DBA tasks (provisioning, monitoring alerts, patching) using IaC and CI/CD tools
  • Collaborate with developers and SREs to review SQL, optimize data models, and support application deployments
  • Define and enforce database security, access controls, encryption, and compliance best practices
  • Create and maintain runbooks, documentation and capacity forecasts; participate in on‑call rotation

Requirements

  • 5+ years as a PostgreSQL DBA or equivalent production experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT or equivalent experience; PostgreSQL or cloud certifications are a plus
  • Strong expertise in PostgreSQL internals, performance tuning, indexing, query planning and statistics
  • Hands‑on experience with backups/restores, PITR, replication (streaming/logical) and HA patterns
  • Experience running PostgreSQL in cloud environments and working knowledge of cloud monitoring tools
  • Familiar with automation and IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD (GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.)
  • Solid Linux sysadmin skills and familiarity with storage, networking and virtualization concepts
  • Proficient in SQL and experience analyzing slow queries/profiles
  • Experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch) and log aggregation
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation and cross‑team communication skills
