 The Nantucket Fire Department seeks an experienced professional for the position of Career Firefighter/Paramedic. The applicant must attain Firefighter I certification within 90 days of completing the course. The applicant will have a maximum of 3 attempts to challenge the exam for the Firefighter I certification. If a candidate is unsuccessful in the first recruit academy attempt, only one additional attempt will be permitted at the will of the Fire Chief.</li><li>
If, at the time of hire, the applicant has a Firefighter I certification, you must attain Firefighter II (FFII)Certification within 90 days of being hired or completing the required Fire Commission approved FFII live burn. If an employee must attend an approved recruit academy, they will have 120 days from the date of their FFI certification to attain their FFII certifications. The applicant will have a maximum of 3 attempts to challenge the exam for the Firefighter II certification.</li><li>
Must successfully complete an approved Smoke Diver course within the first twenty-four (24) months of employment or completion of an approved recruit course. Failure to successfully complete the Smoke Diver course within the first twenty-four (24) months of employment or after the completion of an approved recruitment course shall result in termination. The candidate will have a maximum of three attempts to complete the Smoke Diver course during the 24-month period.</li><li>
Required to maintain all emergency services related licenses and certifications obtained prior to or during employment with the Fire Rescue Department for the entire duration of employment.</li></ul><div><b>
EMS Licensure/Certification</b></div><ul><li>
Must be licensed by the State of Tennessee as an EMR, EMT, or AEMT within one (1) year of being hired. Licensure with the State of Tennessee through reciprocity must be attained within 90 days of hire. Must successfully pass EMR, EMT, and AEMT National Registry Examination within 3 test attempts. The firefighter is the initial classification within the Fire Department. Individuals in this classification normally work under the supervision of a Fire Lieutenant or Fire Captain. The primary responsibilities of a Firefighter are to respond to emergencies, to combat and extinguish fires, provide medical treatment to victims, perform rescues, and do other duties that may be required. Individuals in this classification must be proficient in driving the apparatus to which they are assigned and knowledgeable of the location and operating procedures of all equipment assigned to that apparatus. Work is reviewed through direct observation by the immediate supervisor. Any Firefighter may be assigned to another division within the Fire Department at the discretion of the Fire Chief.<br>

Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, including those involving fire suppression, vehicle extrication, hazardous materials response, medical and traumatic emergencies, and other calls for service as required.</li><li>
Performs firefighting and rescue tasks, including fire suppression, ventilation activities, and building searches; technical rescue tasks, including vehicle extrication, water, and rope rescue; provides emergency medical services; and responds to other calls for service as required.</li><li>
