Sr. Product Manager - Data Platforms

Your Skills and Expertise
As a Senior Product Manager, Data Platforms, you will operate at the intersection of platform engineering, data product teams, and business stakeholders. You will treat the enterprise data platform as a product&mdash;not a project&mdash;owning strategy, outcomes, adoption, and value realization.
You will make an impact by:<ul><li>
Defining and evolving the product vision and roadmap for 3M&rsquo;s enterprise data platform ecosystem, spanning next-generation lakehouse architectures (AWS, Iceberg) and legacy platforms (Snowflake, Teradata, SAP HANA, SQL Server).</li><li>
Balancing modernization and innovation with the stability, optimization, and rationalization of existing platforms.</li><li>
Owning the end-to-end lifecycle of platform capabilities, from intake and prioritization through delivery, adoption, and measurable value realization.</li><li>
Serving as the single-threaded owner for data platform priorities, trade-offs, and sequencing across engineering, data product teams, and business stakeholders.</li><li>
Driving platform adoption through clear value propositions, defined &ldquo;golden paths,&rdquo; and improved developer and analyst experiences.</li><li>
Establishing and tracking success metrics, including platform adoption, reliability SLAs, cost efficiency, data quality, and time-to-deliver data products.</li><li>
Partnering with architecture and governance teams to define and enforce platform standards, including medallion patterns, data contracts, security layers, and policy-as-code practices.</li><li>
Identifying opportunities to decommission, consolidate, and optimize platforms and workloads to reduce cost and complexity.</li><li>
Producing executive-ready artifacts, including monthly platform health and value reports and CIO-level narratives on progress and business impact.</li></ul>
What You&rsquo;ll Build<ul><li>
A clear, opinionated 12&ndash;24 month platform product roadmap</li><li>
A repeatable intake, demand management, and prioritization model</li><li>
A platform adoption playbook for data product and domain teams</li><li>
A value realization framework tied directly to enterprise outcomes</li><li>
Ongoing executive reporting on platform health, adoption, and ROI</li></ul>
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:<ul><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)</li><li>
Eight (8) years of experience in data, analytics, or platform product management in a private, public, government or military environment</li></ul>
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:<ul><li>
Proven experience owning platforms as products, not just delivery or project execution</li><li>
Strong understanding of:</li><li><ul><li>
Modern data platforms and lakehouse architectures (AWS, Iceberg, Delta)</li><li>
Enterprise data warehousing platforms (Snowflake, Teradata, SAP HANA, SQL Server)</li><li>
SQL-based transformation and modeling (e.g., dbt)</li></ul></li><li>
Experience operating within large, complex enterprise environments with multiple stakeholders</li><li>
Demonstrated ability to translate between technical architecture and business value</li><li>
Strong stakeholder management, communication, and decision-making skills</li><li>
Experience with data product operating models, including domain ownership and data mesh concepts</li><li>
Familiarity with data observability, quality, and reliability tooling (e.g., Monte Carlo)</li><li>
Experience with FinOps for data platforms, cost modeling, and optimization</li><li>
Exposure to AI/ML platforms, feature stores, or AI-ready data architectures</li><li>
Comfort operating in ambiguity and driving clarity, focus, and prioritization</li></ul>

The Impact You&rsquo;ll Make in this Role
As the IT Finance Business Analyst, you will have the opportunity to support the development of the IT Business Management framework, aligning IT Financials to IT delivery and business objectives. This role bridges technology and finance, helping stakeholders understand the financial implications of IT strategies, investments, and operations. The ideal candidate has a strong background in Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&amp;A) with a working understanding of IT cost structure and project-based accounting.
In this role, you will:<ul><li>
Work with the IT Business Management Leader to develop and maintain budgets, forecasts and long -range financial plans</li><li>
Monitor and analyze IT operating and capital expenditures, including variance analysis for hardware, software, personnel, 3rd party labor and other specific expenditures to align with business needs and budgetary constraints</li><li>
Support cost allocation models across departments for IT services</li><li>
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for IT Business Management leader, IT leadership, and Corporate Finance.</li><li>
Assist with vendor invoice processing, contract analysis, and ensuring compliance with procurement policies</li><li>
Support business case development for new IT initiatives or investments</li><li>
Provide financial modeling and scenario analysis to support IT strategy decisions</li></ul>
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:<ul><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start).</li><li>
Three (3) years of experience in finance or accounting in a private, public, government or military environment</li><li>
Proficiency in financial management tools such as Excel, SAP, or Oracle Financials.</li></ul>
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:<ul><li>
Five (5) years of experience in finance or accounting, preferably in IT finance or within a technology environment
Good understanding of financial management concepts (e.g CapEx vs Opex)</li><li>
Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills</li><li>
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment</li><li>
Proven ability to develop and exercise project plans with minimal supervision</li></ul>
Work location:
<ul><li>Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN or Austin, TX.</li></ul>
Travel: May include up to 5% domestic/international
