Job Overview Abracadabra Childcare &amp; Development Center is a small, non-profit early childhood program serving a close-knit school community. We are seeking a dependable, caring Preschool Assistant Teacher who truly loves working with young children and values being part of a supportive team. Our school prides itself on strong relationships, collaboration, and a warm, family-like atmosphere where staff feel valued and supported.The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood development, enjoys working closely with colleagues and families, and is committed to providing a nurturing, engaging learning environment.This is a part-time or full-time position. Hours of operation for the center are 7:30am-6pm Monday-Friday.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Assist with planning and implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans aligned with the HighScope Curriculum and early childhood education standards, including literacy, math, physical development, and social-emotional learning.</li><li>Create a warm, engaging classroom environment that encourages curiosity, independence, active learning, and positive peer interactions.</li><li>Use positive behavior guidance strategies to support self-regulation, cooperation, and a respectful classroom community.</li><li>Maintain daily communication with families through Brightwheel.</li><li>Support individual learning needs by adapting activities and collaborating with leadership and families when additional support or early intervention services are needed.</li><li>Facilitate activities that promote language development, fine and gross motor skills, problem-solving skills, and emotional regulation.</li><li>Communicate openly and professionally with parents regarding daily activities, milestones, and student progress.</li><li>Ensure all health, safety, licensing, and supervision requirements are followed to maintain a safe and secure learning environment.</li><li>Work collaboratively with fellow teachers and staff to support classroom planning, school events, and seasonal activities.</li><li>Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education.</li></ul>Qualifications &amp; Requirements<ul><li>Knowledge of child development, classroom management, and play-based learning; experience with the HighScope approach is a plus.</li><li>Familiarity with Brightwheel is a plus.</li><li>Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.</li><li>Dependable, punctual, and committed to being a supportive team player in a small school setting is required.</li><li>Current CPR and First Aid certification.</li><li>Ability to create an inclusive, respectful classroom that supports diversity and prioritizes child welfare.</li></ul>Benefits<ul><li>Flexible scheduling (part-time or full-time hours available depending on your availability)</li><li>Convenient location on Commonwealth Avenue near Del Ray and Old Town Alexandria, with metro access nearby</li><li>Fun, hands-on experience working with children ages 2&ndash;5</li><li>Supportive, friendly team environment where staff are valued and appreciated</li><li>Great opportunity to build childcare, education, and workplace skills</li><li>Ideal summer or flexible job for students or those interested in early childhood education</li><li>Gain valuable experience for careers in teaching, psychology, childcare, or child development</li></ul>Join Abracadabra Childcare &amp; Development Center and become part of a caring, tight-knit school community where educators work together to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young children every day.Pay: $18.50 per hourBenefits:<ul><li>Employee discount</li><li>Flexible schedule</li><li>Professional development assistance</li></ul>Work Location: In person
