<div>GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Diesel Rolling Stock Mechanic is responsible for operating, repairing, and maintaining the facility vehicles (forklifts, cars, and trucks) including engines, motors, pneumatic and conveyor systems, gears, hydraulics, and other machinery. The port engineer is also required to provide maintenance to fishing vessels on site as needed. Supports corporate policies and initiatives. This position reports to the Plant Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
<ul><li>Maintain and repair all types of automotive, marine, hydraulic, and industrial equipment.</li>
<li>Inspect hydraulic, gas, diesel, and electrical systems; repair as needed.</li>
<li>Perform general maintenance and installations on fishing vessels as requested.</li>
<li>Examine parts and materials for defects.</li>
<li>Responsible for maintaining meticulous service records.</li>
<li>Maintain adequate stock levels of parts, oils, fittings, and fuels.</li>
<li>Minor welding and fabrication.</li>
<li>Diagnose mechanical problems both in shop and/or outside as needed.</li>
<li>Plan with and receive direction from plant manager regarding current and upcoming projects.</li>
<li>Respond to routine and urgent calls as required by plant manager.</li>
<li>Other duties as assigned.</li>
</ul>
QUALIFICATIONS:
<ul><li>3+ years&rsquo; experience working as port engineer or rolling stock mechanic preferred.</li>
<li>Knowledge of operating, repairing, and maintaining diesel and gas engines.</li>
<li>Ability to read and understand repair manuals.</li>
<li>Must have valid driver's license.</li>
<li>Knowledge of extended boom forklifts and cranes preferred.</li>
<li>General metal fabrication skills.</li>
<li>Knowledge of basic hydraulics.</li>
<li>Effective oral and written communications.</li>
<li>Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).</li>
<li>Strong organizational and time management skills.</li>
<li>Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.</li>
<li>Ability and willingness to work in a remote area of Alaska and work in a seafood processing plant for several months. This includes traveling and working in inclement weather and in a seafood production plant (inherent hazards include moving machinery, ammonia, wet floors, noise, forklift traffic, etc.).</li>
<li>Ability to works long hours, seven days a week, during the production seasons.</li>
<li>Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.</li>
</ul>
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to work long hours in wet and cold conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.</div>
