JOB DESCRIPTION Clerical SpecialistAlliance Family Health Center, Inc.Pay: $15.00 per hourHours:Monday 8-4Tuesday 8-8 Wednesday 8-6 Thursday 8-12:30 Friday 8-4Late night subject to changeBASIC FUNCTION:Clerical Specialist is responsible for efficient operation and flow of patients through the practice. Greet incoming patients, answer telephones, and schedule appointments and referrals. Collect and update patient information. Accurately handle insurance verification and perform front office procedures. Provides clerical services and performs general office duties. Works with Front Office Lead and Executive leadership to coordinate front office functions and provide input for improvements.JOB DUTIES AND COMPETANCIES:<ul><li>Answers incoming telephone calls and process appropriately. Possess warm outgoing personality with excellent telephone etiquette.</li><li>Verify and collect patient demographic and insurance information.</li><li>Registers and schedules patients into EHR software. Works with manager to develop and implement changes to improve scheduling efficiencies.</li><li>Collects co-pays and patient payments.</li><li>Practice Management Super user for EHR.</li><li>Prepares and sends patient correspondence in accordance with policy. * Prepares and mails new patient information prior to scheduled office visit.</li><li>Retrieves and proofs documentation accurateness for billing purposes.</li><li>Maintain electronic medical record, scan information according to protocol as appropriate.</li><li>Verify Insurance eligibility/benefits (Eligibility Specialty). All authorizations must have insurance eligibility verified prior to their appointment. Parent must be notified if not eligible.</li><li>Meets with and assists patients with respect to the insurance application process and sliding scale eligibility, including presumptive eligibility</li><li>Assists in the training and orienting of new clerical staff</li><li>Promotes positive provider, organization and community relationships.</li><li>Works under the guidance of the AFHC colleague handbook</li><li>Responsible for checking emails on a daily basis.</li><li>Performing other duties as required</li></ul>HEALTH CARING STANDARDS / VALUES:1. Compassion and caringAGE APPROPRIATE CARE:Will provide successful services and/or interactions with the following age groups and will demonstrate the use of appropriate interventions, communication and skills to match the age and/or abilities of the patient where applicable:<ul><li>Pediatric</li><li>Adolescent</li><li>Adult</li><li>Geriatric</li></ul>MACHINES, TOOLS &amp; EQUIPMENT USED:<ul><li>Utilizes the telephone system correctly.</li><li>Demonstrates correct use of the computer, including appropriate software programs used by the department.</li><li>Demonstrates correct use of the FAX machine and copier.</li><li>Skilled in computer applications such as MS Word, Excel</li></ul>EDUCATION, TRAINING &amp; EXPERIENCE:Certification or diploma in Medical Office Administration/Assistant program or equivalent preferred. Medical front office experience preferred. Knowledge and experienced in medical terminology, billing and coding is required. Demonstrated skill in computer applications.
