Position Summary
The Lab Technician plays a key role in supporting American Cementing&rsquo;s field operations by conducting tests on cement, fluids, and oilfield chemicals according to established procedures. This position ensures test results are accurate, well-documented, and presented in a clear, organized format for internal and client use. The role also involves maintaining lab safety, equipment, cleanliness, and inventory.
Key Responsibilities<ul><li>
Perform lab tests involving cement, water, and oilfield chemicals using standardized procedures.</li><li>
Operate laboratory equipment such as:<ul><li>
Cement consistometers</li><li>
Rheometers/viscometers</li><li>
Ovens, water baths</li><li>
Fluid flow apparatus</li><li>
Water and analytical testing kits</li></ul></li><li>
Mix chemicals and fluids for testing; prepare rock and solid samples.</li><li>
Record all test data, calculations, and observations clearly in lab notebooks and digital databases.</li><li>
Create plots, graphs, and visuals from test data for client reports.</li><li>
Capture and process images and videos as needed for documentation.
</li><li>Compile data and observations into organized, client-ready reports.</li><li>
Ensure all data is accurately logged, securely stored, and backed up according to company policy.</li><li>
Maintain traceability of all samples through proper labeling and storage.</li><li>
Perform other duties as assigned to support operational and organizational goals.</li></ul>
Qualifications
Education &amp; Experience<ul><li>
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
</li><li>2&ndash;3 years of laboratory experience working with sensitive instruments and testing procedures.</li><li>
PEC Safeland USA Certification preferred, but not required.</li></ul>
Skills &amp; Knowledge<ul><li>
Strong analytical and mathematical capabilities.</li><li>
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).</li><li>
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.</li><li>
Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.</li></ul>
Critical Tasks / Performance Goals<ul><li>
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.</li><li>
Monitor and reorder lab supplies and chemicals as needed.</li><li>
Properly store all chemicals and maintain inventory logs.</li><li>
Calibrate and maintain lab instruments to ensure reliability.</li><li>
Wear appropriate PPE and ensure safety gear is available for team members and guests.
</li><li>Work independently and collaboratively to complete assigned tasks and projects.</li><li>
Assist team members with short- and long-term testing initiatives.</li><li>
Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers regarding workload, progress, and issues.</li><li>
Be available for extended hours or weekend work as needed.</li></ul>
Work Environment &amp; Physical Demands<ul><li>
Regular exposure to mechanical equipment, chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, and moderate-to-loud noise.</li><li>
Frequently required to stand, sit, walk, handle lab equipment, and lift up to 50 lbs.</li><li>
Visual requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.</li><li>
May occasionally work outdoors or in variable weather conditions.</li></ul>
