What you will do</h2>

In this vital role you will be the key communication counselor focusing on our Research organization, the function that discovers the breakthrough therapies that transform the lives of patients. Research is undergoing significant transformation to accelerate the ability to bring much-needed therapies to all patients sooner. In this role, this individual will develop and implement strategic communication plans to ensure that audiences better understand and appreciate the innovation happening in research and how Amgen Research is uniquely positioned at this hinge moment where biology is meeting tech. This individual will work closely with the Research Senior Leadership Team to develop and deliver a consistent and compelling narrative about the efforts we are making to innovate all aspects drug discovery.
You will use your love of both science and communications to develop meaningful stories that elevate Amgen&rsquo;s position as a leader in scientific research and innovation and generate excitement internally and externally.
This position reports to the Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, Research &amp; Development, with a dotted line to the SVP Research.
Location: Thousand Oaks or San Francisco are highly preferred as these align with Amgen's largest research population and clients.
Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Develop communications strategies and plans that effectively and consistently communicate to targeted key audiences and stakeholders about the science and innovation going on in research. Once fully vetted and approved, flawlessly execute on those plans and deliver measurable results.</li><li>
Develop and support executive engagement plan for Research SVP and key VPs, including proactively preparing company spokespeople via media training / presentation skills.</li><li>
Partner with the media relations team to address incoming media requests related to research and proactively work to garner press coverage with trade press to elevate Amgen as very much part of the wave of transformation sweeping drug discovery.</li><li>
Partner with the product communications team and therapeutic leads on therapeutic area strategy and positioning.</li><li>
Manage and direct public relations agency partners to assure maximum impact and assistance in reaching desired communications goals and objectives.</li><li>
Work in partnership with Research leaders and HR on employee engagement / internal communications.</li><li>
Partner successfully with investor relations to ensure consistency of messages to external audiences including media and financial world</li></ul>

In this vital role you will provide logistical, non-medical educational assistance to patients and caregivers as well as office and site of care staff, including physicians, nurses, office managers and executives. Strong knowledge and demonstrated history of access and reimbursement for buy and bill/infused pharmaceutical products is required. The PAL works in highly visible, strong team environment to provide exceptional customer service on all levels.
The PAL will work with the patient, the physician and the Site of Care to educate on next steps required to gain access to therapy. The PAL will also work to maintain relationships with patients and families, and by extension physicians and their staff and cross-functional partners to support ongoing compliance with therapy. The PAL will work with numerous internal teams, including Market Access, Medical Affairs, Advocacy, Marketing, and Site of Care to facilitate and improve patient access to insurance, medications, financial support, resources and more.
Responsibilities<ul><li>
Secure written or electronic patient HIPAA for patients in the assigned geography</li><li>
Develop relationships with patients and caregivers by engaging via phone, text, email, virtual or in person connections</li><li>
Assess individual needs of the patient and develop an appropriate education and resource plan of action, considering the patient&rsquo;s family and team of healthcare providers to empower the patient to become their own advocate</li><li>
Educate the patient on TEPEZZA coverage based on their benefits and the steps needed to gain prior authorization to ensure understanding of the process for medication access</li><li>
Provide information on co-pay assistance programs, national foundations, and free drug programs by sharing information to patients as appropriate and needed</li><li>
Provide proactive education to prescribers and sites of care upon patient enrollment on coverage for Horizon rare disease therapies, common prior authorization requirements, and coding and billings requirements</li><li>
Provide access and reimbursement education based on the enrolled patient&rsquo;s TEPEZZA benefits to physician offices and sites of care</li><li>
Educate the physician office and/or SOC on TEPEZZA coverage based on the patient&rsquo;s benefits and the steps needed to gain prior authorization to ensure understanding of the process for medication access</li><li>
