Weekend Grounds Assistant (14-29 hrs/week)*****GREAT JOB FOR A COLLEGE STUDENT***Hourly Pay Rate: $17/hr; part-time position, no benefits; save &amp; sick leave eligibleHours/Schedule: regular schedule is 7am-3pm works Saturday &amp; Sunday option to work a few weekdays, but weekends are required works all special events and festivals works some evenings of December light show, 3-10pmJob Summary: this is a great job for a college student - weekends are required, with options to work a few weekdays!Assists with a variety of gardening, maintenance, grounds-keeping, and event related duties. Helps to open and close garden; prepares garden for public visiting hours; assists with lawn and garden care and maintenance, including weeding, watering, mowing, backpacking blowing, etc. Assists with program and event set up and clean up; cleans bathrooms and offices; assigned additional maintenance and repair duties as needed.Daily Responsibilities: Prepares garden for visiting hours- unlocks and locks gates, cleans buildings, empties all trash receptacles, blows off sidewalks, wooded path, and drive areas, keeps flower beds tidy and weed free, waters plants, mows and cuts grass. Assists with variety of landscaping and maintenance tasks as directed.Experience, Training and/or Education: 1 year experience in grounds maintenance work; high school diploma or GED. Must be 18 years of age.Licenses or certificates: must have valid Maryland driver&rsquo;s license with good record.Special requirements: operation of garden owned equipment and vehicles. Subject to background investigation.Physical demands: Requires daily strenuous physical effort to perform manual work involving walking over rough terrain, uneven terrain, repeated bending, climbing, stooping, stretching, reaching and lifting objects up to 100 pounds. Work requires climbing ladders and using various landscaping equipment, hand and power tools and operating various pieces of equipment. Work requires sufficient physical strength, agility, endurance, dexterity and hand-eye-foot coordination to perform all essential duties. Subject to exposure to pesticides, other toxins, insect bites, stings, and disease pathogens. Work requires the use of safety clothing and equipment, and compliance with safety rules and procedures, as needed. This is a great job for a college student looking for a flexible schedule! Employee will perform a variety of customer service and sales duties at the Front Desk, Gift Shop, and Welcome Booth, including opening and closing the park, greeting and orienting guests, assisting with sales, operating the cash register, and assisting with various programs and events. Position requires someone with great customer service skills, who enjoys talking and interacting with guests.Main Duties at Front Desk, Gift Shop &amp; Welcome Booth:<ul><li>Greet and orient visitors to park;</li><li>Monitor and stay attentive to all visitors as they enter and exit buildings and park areas;</li><li>Following opening and closing procedures;</li><li>Operate the cash register and following procedures for accepting payments; follow the packaging procedures for specific gift items</li><li>Maintaining positive and professional attitude with co-workers, volunteers and visitors;</li></ul>Other Duties:<ul><li>Carry out daily chores and assignments</li><li>Keep work areas tidy and neat, including Front Desk, Gift Shop &amp; Welcome Booth</li><li>Keep public areas tidy and neat, including Fairy Lolly, Sluice, artLAB, Nature Nook, galleries, patios, etc.</li><li>Assists with and works programs and events;</li><li>Performs a variety of housekeeping duties, as needed</li></ul>Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:<ul><li>Ability to work comfortably and politely with general public; ability to politely approach guests to assist and give direction</li><li>Ability to assume tasks and responsibilities assigned by manager; ability to direct and delegate tasks to volunteers</li><li>Possess competent writing, math and computer skills to perform daily tasks</li><li>Must be able to answer phones, run cash register, credit card machine</li></ul>Special Requirements:<ul><li>Must be at least 18 years of age;</li><li>Must be able to handle fragile objects;</li></ul>Physical Demands:<ul><li>Must be able to work outside when Welcome Booth is open (spring-fall); work includes cleaning outdoor play areas</li><li>Requires 5-7 hours standing behind sales counter (sometimes longer during special events)</li><li>Must be able to lift medium to heavy loads when opening boxes and arranging products, and reaching merchandise;</li><li>Requires climbing ladders to change displays and reach merchandise, and set up for activities and events;</li><li>Must be able to set up tables and chairs, and pop up tents during events;</li><li>Requires cleaning glass counters and shelving, vacuuming and various other janitorial tasks.</li></ul>Education &amp; Experience: high school diploma or equivalent; 1 year experience in customer service.Computer Sills: requires good computer skills, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.Work Schedule: flexible schedule, but will include weekends, some evenings, and some special events.Working at Annmarie: operating a 50 acre park and presenting a wide variety of programs and events requires staff members who can: stand for long periods of time, walk uneven terrain, work outside in all weather, and spend hours preparing for events and programs, as well as working them. Simply put, it is a very physical place to work. Staff must be able to set up tables and chairs, erect pop-up tents, climb ladders to hand decor and lights, and work the demanding hours of a special programs or event.
