<p>
We are seeking a talented Senior Project Engineer to support our Drinking Water practice based in the New England area. The selected employee will provide technical support for a variety of utility design related projects, including treatment plants, pump/booster stations and water distribution systems.</p>
<p>
This is a remote position and can be located anywhere in the United States. Although remote, some project travel is required.</p>
<p><b>
Primary Responsibilities:</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Assists the Project Manager in the planning, coordination, and execution of both large and small projects.</li>
<li>Works effectively and efficiently within prescribed budgets, and monitors performance on a weekly basis.</li>
<li>Develops and negotiates scopes, fees, and schedules with sub-consultants under the guidance of the Project Manager.</li>
<li>Responsible for developing technical solutions to more complex projects by applying engineering knowledge and skills to produce quality work. Assists in the development and execution of all aspects of the project scope of work.</li>
<li>Assists the Project Manager in complying with assigned project schedules and budget on more complex projects by actively reporting on project progress and identifying additional work outside the contractual scope.</li>
<li>Works closely with Project Managers to gain project management experience. Responsible for financial performance on tasks or projects under their control.</li>
<li>Serves as the Technical Lead in respective discipline for more complex projects, being responsible for the technical coordination among other design disciplines and subcontractors or subconsultants.</li>
<li>Supervises and trains less experienced staff by proving daily guidance and checking their work and progress. Provides input for completion of annual reviews.</li>
<li>Develops technical approach, schedules, and fee estimates for proposals on large-scale or more complex projects to produce an effective and quality proposal.</li>
<li>Maintains quality control within the discipline by reviewing designs, checking calculations, assumptions, and the basis of design on more complex projects.</li>
<li>Assists in the coordination and attends client meetings, including public hearings. Prepares and performs oral presentations for clients regarding project deliverables.</li>
<li>Assists Project Manager by leading construction administration tasks such as construction progress meetings; submittal reviews; preparation of meeting agendas and minutes; review of daily and weekly construction reports; preparation of payment applications, RFIs, and change orders; coordination with Resident Project Representatives; completing project closeout; and tracking construction schedules. Provides updates to the Project Manager.</li>
<li>Demonstrates awareness of corporate priorities regarding quality of work, client satisfaction, and project profitability.</li>
<li>Understands and is aware of contract terms and conditions, professional liability matters, and advises the Project Manager of any concerns.</li>
<li>Participates in approved external associations and professional conferences and presents or authors technical papers.</li>
<li>Identifies areas of potential claims, by preparing documentation and reporting to Project Manager.</li>
<li>May manage a direct report, including responsibility for workload management, time and expense approval and career path development.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>What we're looking for:</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor's of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering field and 6+ years of drinking water engineering experience is required, or a Master's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering field with 5+ years of experience.</li>
<li>Registered Professional Engineer, or working towards licensure within one year, in a State(s) where Apex does work or ability to obtain same by reciprocity.</li>
<li>Proven writing skills as required to prepare technical memoranda, reports, proposals, and contracts and subcontract scopes of work.</li>
<li>Ability to supervise and train less experienced staff; coordinate efforts of other disciplines and outside consultants; interact effectively with clients; demonstrates effective leadership skills and is a positive role model for junior staff.</li>

About the position</b></p>
<p>
As a Scientist with Apex, you will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to environmental excellence. This position is based in Miami Lakes, FL, and is ideal for individuals who are passionate about the environment and eager to make a significant impact. You will gain hands-on experience in the field, focusing on data gathering and analysis to derive unique insights that contribute to sustainable practices. The role encourages proactive career development where you will work closely with Florida licensed Professional Geologists and Professional Engineers in support of career growth, encouraging you to learn and be able to take on more complex projects and tasks over time. Professional licensure encouraged and supported through career development goals.</p>

This unique role will also involve the application of Environmental Health &amp; Safety and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) services, ISO compliance and auditing services under ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018. Direct experience in ISO compliance is a plus, but not required. Hands-on, onsite training for ISO lead auditor certification and experience will be provided under the direction of an ISO-certified lead auditor and Florida licensed Professional Engineer and Certified Safety Professional (CSP).</p>

<p><b>
Responsibilities</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Collect soil, water, air, and building material samples in support of environmental assessment and other technical reports.</li>
<li>Gather, analyze, and interpret data to craft compelling technical reports and proposals.</li>
<li>Manage site investigations and groundwater monitoring projects, leading Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.</li>
<li>Twice per week travel to a client project site for ISO compliance services.</li>
<li>Role involves travel to client project and field sites for field work activities.</li>

<li>Support and advise junior engineers and technical staff to develop PS&amp;E documents;</li>
<li>write reports and technical memos;</li>
<li>coordinate with subconsultants, keep project on schedule and within budget, and keep client satisfied;</li>
<li>Understand project scopes and budgets with support to project manager to maintain delivery within project success metrics;</li>
</ul></li><li>Participate and represent Apex in professional organizations and functions;</li>
<li>Perform other duties as assigned. Duties may periodically include performing a variety of skilled professional tasks, manually or by use of computer-assisted drafting/design equipment.</li>
