<div><p>Responsible for the day-to-day operations and performance of the Support Services Division. Key responsibilities include:</p><br>

Manages division staff to include recruitment and hiring, coaching and mentoring, conflict resolution, work assignment and review, training and development, performance evaluation and feedback, and corrective action as needed.</li><li>

As Chief Fiscal Officer, this position:</b><ul><li>
Prepares, oversees, monitors, and makes recommendations regarding financial, budget, and accounting functions and advises the Director and PWD leadership on financial matters.</li><li>
Conducts financial forecasting, analyzes operational costs, makes recommendations for fee changes, ensures proper internal controls are in place, performs revenue reconciliation, and manages the annual audit of financial records for PWD.</li><li>
Oversees all PWD fund management, quarterly supplemental budget preparation, financial forecasting and reporting, and accounting activities necessary for compliance with County, State, and Federal standards.</li><li>
Manages the Department&rsquo;s annual budget submission.</li></ul><b>
As Chief Administrative Officer, this position:</b><ul><li>
Oversees all Department administrative programs and serves as liaison with the Information Technology, Human Resources, and Finance Departments on various matters that affect PWD.</li><li>
Serves as the Department&rsquo;s coordinator for various County-wide initiatives that affect administrative programs.</li><li>
Advocates for and supports IT projects and initiatives and ensures that the PWD IT Roadmap is kept updated and reflects Department IT needs.</li><li>
Supports employee engagement and retention initiatives in the Department.</li><li>
Leads and champions the Department&rsquo;s Process Improvement program and oversees the Department&rsquo;s Performance Measures program.</li><li>
Serves as the Department&rsquo;s Title IV Coordinator ensuring that services to the public are provided in a fair and inclusive manner.</li><li>
Oversees the operation of the PWD Records program, digital accessibility requirements, and GIS/Mapping, as well as facilities-related issues through coordination with Fleet and Facilities Management Department.</li><li>
Coordinates the annual employee review process including normalization of scores between divisions and making recommendations to the Director for year-end merit pay and additional pay adjustments as needed.</li><li>

<b>We Provide Practical Experience</b><br>
Our 2L internship program offers law students a unique opportunity to conduct meaningful work on real criminal cases. Our Appellate interns work closely with the attorneys in our appeals unit, conducting legal research and refining their legal writing skills by drafting corresponding briefs that are submitted to the District Court, Colorado Court of Appeals, and Colorado Supreme Court. Interns in our 2L program do not need to wait until graduation to begin making a positive impact in their community.<br>

<b>We Train for the Future</b><br>
Our 2L internship program is designed for law students contemplating a career in criminal prosecution. We train and mentor our 2L interns with the goal of preparing them to return as 3L interns working and trying cases under the Student Practice Act. Our 3L interns are trained and mentored with the goal of returning to our office as deputy district attorneys.</p></div>

Appellate interns conduct research regarding an array of complex issues pertaining to criminal law. With the guidance of our experienced appellate attorneys, interns review trial court records, conduct legal research, and draft corresponding legal briefs. Issues arising out of county court (traffic and misdemeanor cases) are briefed in the District Court.</li><li>
Issues arising out of the District Court are briefed in the Colorado Court of Appeals and Colorado Supreme Court.</li><li>
Appellate interns may also be called upon to assist with the creation of template motions or legal memoranda that are distributed to assist our various prosecution units.</li></ul><b>

WORK ENVIRONMENT:</b></p><p>
The typical work environment for this position is an office environment. However, work is performed in the field as well and sometimes in circumstances involving hazards such as crimes, accidents, fires and disturbances which may be threatening to life or cause bodily harm. Work environment becomes extremely stressful during peak activity periods demanding full attention and coordination of numerous tasks simultaneously required. Personal contact with any individual of the public, an inmate or arrestee occurs on a daily basis. This position requires physical contact of touching, controlling, sitting by, as well as the examining of an individual&rsquo;s extremities, and body cavities. Hand-to-hand exchanges and face-to-face verbal communications between the member and the public is required on a constant basis. This position may require immediate response to medical emergencies where blood, body fluids or other medical hazards may be present. The member may or may not have time to take precautionary and protective measures. May be assigned to work schedules requiring work on rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.</p><p><b>
401(a) DEFINED BENEFIT RETIREMENT PLAN:</b></p><p>
Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office employees participate in a mandatory defined benefit program designed to help employees establish a source of income for retirement years. Through the Plan, eligible employees must set aside 9.00 percent, which is subject to change in the coming years, on a pretax basis of which the County matches at 9.75%. The County also contributes 6.2% to Social Security.</p><b>
BIO-HAZARD NOTICE:</b><p>
This position has been determined to be an EXTREME exposure risk to &quot;biohazards&quot; including, but not limited to, viruses, toxins, and blood-borne pathogens, such as HIV/AIDS (human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), HBV (hepatitis B virus), and air-borne transmissions of TB (tuberculosis). Members are advised that exposure to a &quot;biohazard&quot; may result in severe illness and/or death. Members are required by agency policy to use protective equipment and clothing. EXPECTED DURATION OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS:</b></p><p>
Due to the nature of the application and selection process for the Sheriff's Office, applicants can reasonably expect the application process to take a significant amount of time to complete before a decision is made to hire or not to hire. Typically, it takes approximately twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks from the date of application to complete the entire selection process. The length of time it takes to complete the process can vary depending on a variety of factors. Please note that this is an estimated duration of the selection process.</p><p><b>
WORK SCHEDULES:</b></p><p>
Employees are required to work their assigned shifts at the best location determined by the agency, consistent with the needs of the Sheriff's Office.</p><p><b>
DUTY ASSIGNMENTS:</b></p><p>
All applicants hired by the Sheriff serve at the pleasure of the Sheriff of Arapahoe County and may be assigned to any of the agencies bureaus, sections or units at the discretion of the Sheriff or his duly appointed representative. Employment is at the will and pleasure of the Sheriff, per Colorado State Statute: 30-10-506. Written policies and other manuals do not alter the at will status of employment.</p><p><b>

Successful applicants are subject to an initial status period of employment. This initial status period is twelve (12) months for all positions. The initial status period is regarded as part of the applicant's examination process and will be utilized for purposes of employee evaluation, training and adjustment to the demands of the profession. New employees, who fail to perform satisfactorily during the period, may be separated from the Sheriff's Office, depending on the circumstance of each case.</p><p><b>

Applicants who failed a written test may reapply and retest no sooner than six (6) months from the date they took the written test.
