Work in one of the various departments in Arctic Slope Native Association or Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital depending on the area of the intern&rsquo;s field of study or interest for the purpose of gaining on-the-job experience and acquiring skills.</div>

Qualifications:</h1>
<ul><li> Must be at least 18 years old (unless graduated from high school).</li></ul>
<ul><li> High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Must be able to pass a background check.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Must be able to pass a UA.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Enrolled in or admitted to postsecondary education institution or other postsecondary trade school required.</li></ul>

Summer Intern

<div>Brief Summary:

Assists the Systems Administrator and IT Manager with ASNA wide database systems, hardware and software and provides programming support for existing and custom applications. 


Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
<ul><li> Associates degree (or equivalent credit hours) in Computer Science, Information Technology or Management Information Systems or related field of study, OR three to five years of work experience in an IT environment.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Worked with network switches and firewalls.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Two years of work experience with Microsoft Operating Systems preferred.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Two years of work experience with Electronic Medical Records systems, (IBM software systems) preferred.</li></ul> 


Essential Job Functions
<ul><li> Help create new servers and services.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Assist the IT Manager and Systems Administrator in all areas of system and data management including operating system installation, maintenance, upgrades and documentation.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Monitor backups and create new backups.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Hardware installation, maintenance and upgrades.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Performs the implementation of application software installation and upgrades.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Provide end user training on all software applications.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Evaluate data accuracy to help end-users determine data entry errors.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Maintain and track current and future IS projects.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Maintain all skills necessary for performance of assigned duties including Systems operations and tuning, second level problem identification and resolution.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Maintain all effective working relationship with all departments.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Serve as on-call support resource for problem resolution.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Travel as required.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Perform other duties as assigned.</li></ul>

Computer/General Office Skills:
<ul><li> Proficient in the following computer applications: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and E-mail. Ability to type, with no errors, 50 wpm.</li></ul> 


Certification/Licensure:
<ul><li> Valid State of Alaska Driver&rsquo;s License.</li></ul></div>

Jr Systems Administrator

<div>Brief Summary:
Responsible for overall support to the Patient Accounts Department. This may include assisting the Patient Benefits Coordinator, Pharmacy Billing Clerk, Medical Billing Clerk or Registrars.

Essential Job Functions
<ul><li>
Investigate credit balances, research unidentified cash accounts.</li><li>
Set up payment plans if needed.</li><li>
Compile billing forms from various departments and uploads daily to billing service.</li><li>
Research problem accounts for billing service.</li><li>
Verify benefits and explain dental benefits to patients and providers.</li><li>
Complete pre-certifications when necessary.</li><li>
Collect co-pays on self-pay portions at time of service.</li><li>
Ensure correct HCPCS Codes are on Pyxsis slips for billing service.</li><li>
Notify Pharmacy of any medications that need pre-certification or justification.</li><li>
Answer incoming phone calls promptly and courteously.</li><li>
Collect patient health insurance information and/or third-party payor information.</li><li>
Obtain a copy of the patient&rsquo;s insurance card and/or tribal membership card.</li><li>
Assist patient in completing and updating forms for the RPMS Patient Registration System; including outpatient, inpatient, emergency and specialty clinic patients.</li><li>
Identify patients whose health benefits are subject to prior approval and notify medical personal such.</li><li>
Obtain signatures from patients on required forms for alternate resources and contacts health services prior to patient being seen in the clinics for billing purposes.</li><li>
Enter all patient health and billing-related information into RMPS; updating &amp; making corrections as necessary.</li><li>
Interview patients at the initial time of service in order to determine available accessible resources for which the patient is eligible.</li><li>
Assist in making and/or coordinating arrangements with or for the patient in order to complete any required paperwork for the alternative resource.</li><li>
Call to remind patients of their appointments, check demographic information at that time.</li><li>
Perform other clerical and administrative duties as assigned.</li></ul> 


Education &amp; Experience
<ul><li>High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Some accounting experience or training preferred.</li></ul>
