Hours: Working a mixture of day and night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays. Twilight shifts may also be required. Both part-time or full time are available, worked on a rota basis issued 8 weeks in advance. Shorter day shifts may also be available to support flexibility.
As this is a 24-hour inpatient service, all team members are expected to participate in a fair rotation of day and night shifts to support safe staffing, equitable rota arrangements, and wellbeing of the wider team.

Following a new agreement with Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board, we&rsquo;re able to increase our inpatient beds from eight to 10. This means we can grow our Inpatient Unit team and continue strengthening the care we provide for patients and those important to them.
About the role
As a Registered Nurse within our Inpatient Unit, you will provide high-quality, specialist palliative and end of life care to patients and those important to them. Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will deliver holistic, person-centred care that prioritises comfort, dignity and quality of life.
You will assess and respond to complex clinical needs, support patients and families through challenging and emotional times, and contribute to a calm and therapeutic ward environment. The role also offers opportunities to take on shift leadership responsibilities, support junior colleagues, and contribute to the ongoing development of inpatient services.

What you&rsquo;ll be doing:
In this role, you will play a key part in supporting the safe and consistent delivery of inpatient care, helping to ensure that patients and families continue to access specialist palliative and end of life support when they need it most. You will deliver high-quality, compassionate nursing care, assessing and responding to complex needs while prioritising comfort, dignity and quality of life.
Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to shared clinical decision-making and continuity of care across the patient journey. You will also support the day-to-day running of the inpatient unit, taking on shift leadership responsibilities when required, and providing guidance and support to junior colleagues within a positive and collaborative team environment.
This may include supporting patients and families through symptom escalation, advance care planning, or end of life decision-making, ensuring care is responsive, sensitive and individualised.

What you&rsquo;ll bring:
To succeed in this role, you will be a Registered Nurse (RGN) with a valid NMC registration and experience of delivering compassionate, high-quality care as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will bring strong communication, organisational and teamwork skills, along with the confidence to work sensitively with patients, families and colleagues in emotionally complex situations.
A genuine passion for palliative and end of life care is essential, alongside a commitment to providing holistic, person-centred support that respects dignity, choice and comfort. You will also be motivated to continue developing your skills and knowledge, and we will support your learning through mentorship, training and professional development opportunities.
Desirable experience qualifications include:<ul><li>
Experience in palliative care, oncology or a hospice setting</li><li>
A post-registration qualification in palliative care or mentorship</li><li>
Familiarity with electronic patient record systems, such as SystmOne</li></ul>
